Has the processor on the PS3 for upconverting and playing blu-ray movies recieved any attention since the newer versions came out yet?

I know when they cam out they were still the the BEST blu-ray player you can get.

I just wanted to know if they refined any of the dvd/b-ray capabilities of the playstation 3.

There have been significant updates to features for Blu-Ray & upconverting for normal DVDs to 1080P. It's the best Blu-Ray player out there, as well as a gaming system that will only get better.

The video and audio is constantly being tweaked. You can also stream video and audio from a pc to your PS3, and it is the only system that is DivX Certified to run those movies.

Here is the official PS3 blog (http://blog.us.playstation.com/), with information on everything Playstation 3. This site includes Firmware update notes, and update logs (http://blog.us.playstation.com/category/product/). If you check it out, you will see BD Live support. Do a search on google to see that. It is a really great feature that Blu-Ray discs can have.

The system is VERY powerful, and I am sure tons of great updates will be coming out soon. I had one at launch, and sold it after. I am REALLY impressed with the firmware updates they have released. I am waiting on a price drops to snag one.

the strength of the ps3 as a player is its software and sony's ability to update it.

there probably won't be a better player at the same price point for a while.

i dont see how it is the best unless they are still not maxing out the hardware. But the hard ware can only go so far with firmware up dates. so what the deal?

i know this isnt the BEST blu-ray player for a fact. i have read many review from home theater magazines.

The BEST audio and video discussion forum on the web is the AVS Forum (http://www.avsforum.com/), hands down.

According to MANY, the PS3 is the best player on the market right now, due to features, consistent firmware updates, the upcoming Netflix HD streaming service, etc. The system is FAR FAR FAR from maxed out, per Sony. They have even said that they hope the PS3 has a 10 Year lifespan. The system is really stack, so I wouldn't be suprised if they aren't even near scratching the surface.

Being a gamer, media center buff and a movie buff, I think it is the best right now.

Most reviews I've read said it's a good quality Bluray player (not the best), but it is the lowest cost of any Bluray players.

I read online that its smart to sign guys if they suck, as long as its only for a year. So that doesnt mean shit

I think they said that about the PS2, also. I just picked up a PS3, because of the great deal Best Buy was having with the MGS4 launch ($100 off, plus a $100 gift card). While the game graphics are the best of any console right now (especially in glorious 1080p), I think they'll look a bit dated in 2016. They may still be selling PS3s at that point, but only as a second-tier system. Ten years is just too long a lifespan for any console, because of Moore's Law. The PS3 still rocks though...even regular DVDs look awesome.
