The tavern ground it up really fine so you didn't get those big lumps o' meat like you get from Dominos and PH. It was good stuff.
I've never eaten there but The Chimney Rock Inn (http://www.chimneyrockinn.com/Pizza.htm) in Bridgewater is supposed to have excellent thin-crust pizza. My mom swears by it.

I can't stand that it's almost impossible to find sausage that ISN'T ground up. Give me the shaved/sliced sausage any day. Oddly enough, the closest place I can find around here for sliced sausage is in West Virginia at a place called Kings. That place rocks, and it's the only one around that's owned and run by Italians.

thats quite the fuckable pie
is that pie doing anything later
but thin pizza makes you enjoy the sauce and cheese, ( the main ingredients) plus the toppings better
Too much dough effects the pizza as a Whole

Thin wins because it's impossible to eat thick crust as often without dying. Thick is something you savor and enjoy every so often.
Lost in the debate is Chicago-style thin crust, which is even thinner and crispier than NYC-style. It's usually cut into squares, but I prefer the pie-slice:

I've been to Chimney Rock. Its pretty good. But Star is my favorite because its super thin, crunchy, and just the right amount of oily. It was good in studio but if you eat it there, its amazing. No substitute for just out of the oven.

We had that shitty square pizza at my hayseed public school in Kentucky too.
There are several dishes that shitty school food ruined my taste for until I went back to them later. Like meatloaf. I think the shit they served at my school was actually dog food that didn't pass QA at the Alpo factory. I had to go out and be talked into trying it at a restaurant later before I could eat it again.

There was no sign of their hours of operation so we ate at the vegetarian restaurant Curley's next door. When we left there was a paper plate in the window that had "open later" written on it.
I thought that was pretty lame. I guess I'll go back "later".

agreed - New Haven is the pizza mecca in the US. AJ, have you tried comet ping pong (http://www.washingtonpost.com/ac2/wp-dyn?node=cityguide/profile&id=1131542) or pete's new haven style (http://www.petesapizza.com/) in DC? We've been to comet a bunch and it's usually really good. Haven't been to Pete's yet.
No, I never go to DC anymore so I never heard of them. I'll have to give them a try. Thanks for the heads up!

It pains me to say it, but New Haven does have some fine pizza. Sallys Apizza is old school, coal fired ovens, thin crust, just beautiful. They use peels that are 6 ft long to get them deep in the oven. The signature clam pizza is amazing. On the Jersey front, Star is very, very good, but my favorite is still Spirito's in Elizabeth (714 3rd Ave, Elizabeth, NJ). Been going there since I was a kid. Went a few weeks ago and its still as fantastic as the first time I had it in the 70's. Runner up, Reservoir Tavern in Parsippany, although last time I was there, it was crazy busy and my pizza came out a bit "soupy". Bummer.

OK, I gave Pete's Apizza a try last week and it was pretty good. Not exactly New Haven-style but leaps and bounds ahead of the crap down here. A for effort though -- good crust but it needed to be cooked a little bit more. I need to give Comet a try and I need to see what the 2 Amy's (http://www.2amyspizza.com/)fuss is all about.
I was rewarded with Ernie's last Friday when I was up in CT. God I miss that place!

omigod. sheepy and i want to artichoke last night and i am speechless.
the line was about 20 minutes (short line took a long time, but hey, i'll wait for something good).
Its a tiny little place, a take out counter, and room for maybe 1 person to stand inside and suck down your pizza on a tiny little ledge, but just barely.
The decor is unusual-- they have a crystal chandlier and a kennedys portrait on the wall. strange.
Anyway, none of this matters. I had the pizza. It was too hot and crowded to stand inside, and nowhere to bring the pizza to outside (no way i was waiting till we got to union square to try it) so i just opened the box on the sidewalk and lifted up this MASSIVE slice to take a bite.
FUCKING AMAZING!!! Its retarded thick, which i usually dont like but maaaaaaaan. Sheepy was cracking up because it was so hot that some of the cheese and stuff slid off the pizza and down my arm, giving me a big ugly burn on my hand, but rather than stop and clean the burning hot shit off my arm, i just kept eating and told him to leave me alone.
Its hard to describe. Lots of amazing cheese, i think some kind of cream sauce maybe? And of course artichoke and i think spinach.
I also tried the regular slice, It was fine but really a waste of time. Get yourself a slice of the artichoke, and eat it there if you can while its piping hot. While the last bite I had once it cooled off was fantastic, it didnt compare to the first bite. Yummmm. I'll post some pics.

Ha ha! I've done the same thing myself. When something tastes that good, pain is irrelevant. I burned the roof of my mouth eating delicious pizza last week and the pain was exquisite. Nothing a little birch beer couldn't take of!
