So here's my dilemma...I'm at work, and I didn't pack a lunch...I don't want to go load up on a burgers or fries, or gigantic sandwiches.

What the hell am I suppose to do?

Are there any good options for this situation, where you need to grab something quick when you're out?

Even a chain like Saladworks...their Salads aren't all that healthy.

Maybe I'll just run to grocery store and grab some tuna or something. But I was thinking, though, that we might be able to compile a list of somewhat palatable fast food/quick items that may be good in a situation like this.

You can go to a deli and order a small sandwich. Ask for sliced bread.

It's the greatest thing since.... hmmm...

turkey on whole wheat, or in a whole wheat wrap, no dressings, lots of veg. If you get a gigantor wrap (like @ saladworks) then eat half today, and half tomorrow (or for dinner)

It depends.

What's nearby? What would you have packed if you'd remembered to pack your lunch? What's your budget?

I happen to enjoy the Fiesta Salad from Starbucks when it's available. For a little over $5, you get a grilled corn, black bean and salsa mixture that's served over a leaf of Romaine lettuce. They also include a wedge of lime and a small slice of avocado. Total caloric content is under 300 calories.

At someplace like Subway, get a half-size sandwich on wheat bread. Skip the condiments (like mayonnaise or other dressings) and pile on the veggies ... you do realize you can get green peppers, cucumbers and carrots on your sammich even if you're not getting one of their Veggie Delite sammiches, right? (Not a knock on the Veggie Delite sammich, btw. I order mine as a footlong, with Swiss cheese, all the veggies they have available that day and a splash of vinegar.)

At someplace like Saladworks, build your own salad and ask for the dressing on the side. Opt for spinach over lettuce, lean proteins and lots of other veggies for variety. And try to only eat half of it. (It'll be hard.)

My last standby is a small Wendy's chili and a sour cream and chives baked potato. That's rated at 510 calories on their meal calculator (http://www.wendys.com/food/Nutrition.jsp), which is a bit more than I thought it was calorie-wise. (Probably fine for dinner, but for lunch pick one or the other.)

grilled chicken from Mickey Ds or BK are good if you don't add Mayo and don't eat the bread

also Turkey, Ham or any Cold Cut minus mayo from a Deli is good

some Taco Bell Chicken Steak or Beef, with out Cheese Sour Cream isn't too bad for you

same with Baja Fresh

avoid fries and onion rings , too many fats , carbs and high calories

Depending on what grocery stores you are by, you can go in and make a fresh salad or another selection from their salad bar type foods.

You'll spend how much you want to spend and at the quantity of food you know is suitable for you.

Well, I ended up going to the grocery store, picking up some cans of tuna, some low cal rye bread, and some fat free mayo.

I'm just going to leave the stuff at work in case I'm in a pinch, so I should be good for a while.

It sucks, though...I drive up and down the highway were I work, and I'll I see is every fast food chain known to man, incuding a Five Guys, some pizza joints, a Saladworks (which again, isn't what it's advertised to be as far as the health of their salads) and a couple delis.

A good idea for a website would be taking a lot of different chains, and kind of breaking down what's good and what's bad if you have to hit one of them up.

On a side note, I would never be able to be able to bring myself to go to a Subway. Living in the heart of hoagie/sub country, it would feel like the ultimate betrayal.

Call a deli and order it for pick up so its quick to get.

The best thing I ever did nutritionally was force myself to get in the habit of making my lunch at home.

If there's a grocery store nearby I generally go in and try to get the four food groups as unprocessed as I can find them. Yogurt, fruit, a good meal-like soup, a wheat roll and a decent drink is a great lunch.

i agree, i finally started doing this a little while ago...its actually a good easy diet

stuff made at home is normally healthier...and even if you pack something unhealthy its still gonna be better than that 1 dollar double cheeseburger i was gonna get

plus its conveient...dont have to worry about wasting time or gas

i actually started losing a decent amount of weight simply making lunch

I am SO addicted to fast food lunches. I've been trying to do better.

when I am being good and I go out for lunch, I go to a local supermarket - they have a salad bar. Salad bars are always a good option cause you and pick and choose what you want to put on your salad and most grocery stores nowadays have them, at least out here in suburbia where every grocery store is laid out to compete with Wegman's type stores.
