A couple of times a year, Uncut polls fellow musicians (along with a few musically-minded comedians and actors) to come up with an artist's best songs. This month, it's David Bowie.
Here's the list, along with the person who wrote the commentary for said track.

That list only emboldens my stance that the Wallflower's cover of "Heroes" is a hate crime upon the music community.

I disagree with that list on so many levels. That none of TVC15, It's No Game Part 1, Hang Onto Yourself, Be My Wife, Panic In Detroit (Aladdin Sane ver.), Look Back In Anger, Breaking Glass, Suffragatte City were included baffles me. I could add to that list of songs. Not the best lineup.

It's not a *bad* list...it doesn't include Theme from Cat People- "Putting out fires (with Gasoline)", or "Magic Dance" from Labyrinth, or "Jump They Say".

I seriously doubt that Jakob Dylan ever heard Bowie's song before some record industry suit handed it to him.

Amen, boys. "Heroes" has been my favorite Bowie song since high school, and the Wallflower's remake makes me want to punch Jakob and his dad in the throat. Only Los Lobos' horrendous rendition of "La Bamba" tops it as worst cover song of all time.

I believe Tenbats has explained here he's a fan of that cover.
Do with that as you will.
"Suffragette City" not on that list is insane.

Uncut magazine sounds like it should be a showcase for uncircumcised penises.
Just sayin.

Yeah some songs just shouldnt be covered, but heres a [perhaps] noble attempt at Heroes, at least Belew played w/ and toured with Bowie, and Fripp played the guitar on the original album version, so you're hearing the actual guy who played the wacked out sustain forever square wave-ish sounding Les Paul that, for me, is the signature of the song.
Weird to watch rock and roll getting old.

For bad covers, nothing tops the awfulness of Rod Stewart doing any Tom Waits

In my former life I was working for a radio station that sponsored a Wallflowers show at the trade winds (RIP).
Dylan was a really cool guy and had really good taste in music (most of our conversation had to do with Joe Strummer as I had seen him recently). He was def a big Bowie fan (wow I guess I have a Dylan story too.... ha-ha)

Not for me personally. Actually for myself, Golden Years is the weak link on Station to Station. I disagree with much of the list though. I would have no problem with erasing the Young Americans Album from Bowie's catalog. The whole album is so thinly produced and obvious, I really just don't get it .

I love Bowie in any shape, form or glittered Paas egg he may come in so sorry if i may not come across as hip or die hard in saying that "China Doll" and "Golden Years" should be on that list and because they're not, everyone involved with it can burn.

Hm. No David Byrne. Bowie/Byrne same cosmosexual guys at opposite poles in my contorted mind.
Ok, who'd win in a fight? Robot David Bowie and a regular honey badger versus regular David Byrne and a baby robot tiger?

There's a Bowie concert on Deep Tracks--channel 40 right now. From '87 in Montreal, I think.
