I ordered one of these (http://www.netflix.com/NetflixReadyDevices?tb=now&lnkctr=nfrdnow2)right when I read about it and it hasn't shipped yet. Does anyone actually have it?

Good luck with that.
The current speeds that they are using to upload movies to your box will cause quite a few Buffering... moments. In addition, they have the boxes capped at a maximum 480P Resolution FOR NOW. They have stated that through future firmware updates that they will be uncapping tx/rx speeds, features, and 1080P resolutions.
Lemme know how this works out for you. I am holding off for the reasons above, and the possibility of them starting a stream service through Xbox Live (and PSN respectively).

hd ready?
according to my research, yes.
It hooks to your tv using an hdmi cable.
It looks interesting, but not a necessity for me right now.

Maximum of 480P only at the beginning, and NO surround sound support. They did mention that it will be uncapped via firmware down the line.

Sounds great to me! I scaled back my digital cable, so this might be the ticket for getting a few more movies to watch.
BTW - has anybody heard if they will eventually offer some sort of firmware upgrade that will uncap the tx/rx speed and resolution restrictions Netflix is starting the service with?

I've streamed netflix movies from my laptop to the tv and there weren't any buffering issues. The problem there was my laptop's audio out sucks. I was going to get a mac mini to do this but then learned that netflix can't stream to macs. This seams like a good and much cheaper alternative. I eagerly away my roku...

Keep in mind that this box can only stream the movies you can stream on your computer now, and right now that's a small fraction of them.
That is changing, and hopefully this device will hasten this process. I don't want my nosy-ass mailman knowing what movies I rent. "Oh, Emmanuelle again?"

Back when I worked retail Roku was pretty well known for
1) Delaying product launches and
2) Not delivering what they claim.
Just sayin.

i got the roku today - installed it in about 15 minute (couldn't get the wireless to work so i used ethernet). The picture quality isn't bad - you can tell a slight pixilation but totally acceptable. i recommend it.
