What do you think of him?
To me he is total bad ass, but I saw an interview with him and aside from the bs, and checkered past, I think he's a good guy at heart.
There is some controversy about the fight he had yesterday, and I think his win was a technical KO, but I think he will keep getting better as he learns more.

He popped that dude's ear. My wife was fixated on it. Once he was on the ground he was in trouble but the white guy had nothing for him standing up.

No it was busted up and deformed already. Saw it in the introductions and had to stay to see the end.

That thing popped like a water balloon. I love that CBS showed the replay at least 5 or 6 times.
Kimbo needs to work on his conditioning, he looked gassed at the end of the 2nd round.

Not a fan, but he's a good fighter - not worth the massive hype he's getting though. He does have the potential and drive to get alot better very quick, but he only has maybe four or five years left to prove himself. That's not alot ot time.
I have trained Judo, boxing and jujitsu for about 25 years, and for the last five it's been primarily mixed martial arts training. Both my ears are cauliflowered, but not as bad as most fighters. You don't even notice it after a while.
The fight shouldn't have been stopped, as bad as James Thomson's ear looked it really was nothing. I think Thompson won the first two rounds, but he was done at the beginning of that third round, and I think Slice would have likely stopped it in the third one way or the other anyhow.
Overall, not a great night of fights but I can't wait to see the ratings. I really hope it does well, so someone like HBO will wake up and start doing more to promote MMA in general. HD Net is starting to do a good job, and Showtime has some of the developmental Elite XC events, but it needs someone with the respect of an HBO to promote it like they did boxing all those years ago.

I think EliteXC has to be pissed at the doctors and the ref that they had...
That title fight, the one right before kimbo's, shouldn't of been stopped... the dude had 5 minutes, he said to give him the 5 minutes and he would be ok and they didnt...
the kimbo one shouldnt of been stopped either... while the guy was dazed he was still trying for a take down, and if he got kimbo to the ground he prob. would of kept driving those elbows which would have given him the decision...
but unfortunately, that would kill Elite XC's top draw... The ref knew he couldn't let that happen so he did what had to be done..
imo, kimbo is going to need to fight an even more of a nobody next fight and knock him out in like 30-45 seconds....
he had the Tyson hype going for him but he has lost some serious ground

Kimbo would have no chance against the top MMA guys. the guy he fought last night wasn't great and I thought he won the first 2 rounds. i'd like to see Kimbo/Lesnar though. there were to many stops last night. the guy who got poked in the eye would have been fine. my guess is CBS told them to speed up the show. it ran late even with the all the doctor stops.

I think Kimbo has a great fighter's instinct, and if he keeps working with people like Rutten, he will probaly vastly improve. I don't think he's another Bob Sapp one trick pony.

i would LOVE kimbo-lesner, although i am pretty sure Lesner would wind up winning pretty easy

i didnt see anything controversial, any fighter looking like thompson did is going to get stopped, he was out on his feet and bleeding heavily from an ear that looked like it was about to fall off his head (even tho it wasnt), hell of a chin tho, but he wasnt doing anything to defend himself and he was going down shortly if they didnt stop it.
like i said in the other thread, those elbows and little punches were definitely hurting kimbo when thompson was on him, it just didnt LOOK they hurt, if thompson threw a few exaggerated big elbows in that position that fight is stopped. there is an argument to be made that it could have been stopped anyway, but if the ref was going to do anything there it would more likely have been just stand them up because it looked like thompson was just baby tapping him, but i guarantee you those elbows hurt.
the title fight was a misunderstanding that iwould like to see clarified, but i dont think it was fishy or anything. everyone knows that if you tell a doctor you cant see that they are going to stop the fight. the thing is usually it is from swelling or bleeding that someone would say that, when it is from an eye poke the doctor should allow them 5 minutes THEN ask them if they can see, because there is a reasonable expectation their vision will return to normal.
smith should have been more careful with what he said and the doctor should have been more aware of the situation. imo.

he still needs to be in better shape, right now his stamina is lacking and that could really expose him.

I don't care who you are, after one round of fighting either of those guys, their weight, their punches and anyone would be gassed just the same. His issues come on the ground as this guy was still better then Kimbo and he's not even that good himself. Kimbo's ability to pick up the jujitsu/ground fighting is key, but you can't teach a street fighter/stand up brawler over night. And to be real, he may never catch up yet his raw power and lack of fear is impressive. Against a good ground man last night, Kimbo would have tapped out in the first round as he was badly exposed multiple times.

I agree with the timeline, but HBO to me isn't needed. HBO still backs boxing and it's in shambles outside of PPV, and MMA is surely going to get to that level soon enough. But in reality, doesn't it look like we as a country are finally jumping the shark? Can anyone say gladitor fight at the Colesium? Between Bush's war, the economy, the average fat/dumb/ignorant citizen, greed and now this, is it really over?

Did he cause that guys ear to cauliflower?
The guys ear was massively cauliflowered prior to the fight. It looked like a huge tumor on the side of his face... I know, "it's not a tooma".
Kimbo just focussed in on it at the start of the 3rd and popped it.

These fights are what give slice the opportunity to be more successful than Lesnar. While I agree that would be an epic fight right now because they are all desire and little skill.... In 5 years Slice would probably dominate because of his time fighting these lesser guys and having the chance to work on his skills in the octagon.
Lesnar went to the big time and now it's always showtime. His only learning is coming in the gym, there's no amount of practice time that could be as beneficial as an actual fight.

WHats the difference between MMA and Ultimate fighting which they run around the clock on cable tv?
Are kicks allowed in both? If a guy knew how to kick, he would be able to torment Kimbo with roundhouse kicks as Kimbo just slowly moves forward like a bull.

UFC is a MMA promotion, much like WEC is a MMA promotion, which I think you are talking about being run around the clock.

not a big MMA fan...but watched the fight.
Kimbo was losing the fight.
He caught the other guy with some viscous shots....my gut was telling me they shouldnt have stopped it, but upon review, it seemed that the other guy was blanked by those shots, and if kimbo landed 2-3 more haymakers, this other guys career coulda been over....
...so , i reluctantly agree that the ref did the right thing.

Kimbo needs to check out of MMA now and cash out with a Clubber Lang role while he still has buzz. When he was tired his guard was below his waist. He won't remember the fundamentals when exhausted.
As much as I love and respect Bass Ruten, Kimbo's conditioning will not likely get much better. Too old to step in this arena at that level.
