I wasn't sure where to put this until I realized I had my own OLD SCHOOL forum.

NOT MY MOM
I got the last of my Godmother's children's books and she sent me a note with a memory about my mom on VE Day (5/8/45):
Your mom and I decided to celebrate and went on the subway for a .05 cent ride to Times Square. We realized it was a mistake as it was so crowded. People were grabbing each other and hugging and screaming in joy. Young boys grabbed strange girls and kissed them. It was such a mad house, and it took us hours to fight our way to the subway station. We laughed and had fun. We saw a church and went in and said a fast prayer and went home."
That brought several tears to my eyes. I wish I could hear more stories like that.
My parents on their wedding day:

October 1947. My mom was 20, my dad was 25.

That's really cool.
My mom and dad married in 1948, and my oldest sister was born in 1949. I'll be 40 in September, and my parents were 40 when I was born. My dad fought in WWII-he was a 15 year old when he joined the Marine Corps. My grandmother signed a waiver for him to join. He wanted to fight the Japs after being surrounded by Navy and Marine Corps officers while being an apprentice electrician building the USS New Jersey in the Philadelphia Shipyards. He dropped out of high school, but while he was in the Corps. he got his GED.
My mother met my father when his mom got put into the hospital-I forget why, but the story is he met my mother, who was a candy-striper, and was so smitten by her he went out and bought an engagement ring, and two weeks after they met he asked her to marry him.
Next year they will be celebrating their 81rst birthdays, and their 60th wedding anniversary.
I like hearing stories that are similar to my parents. Your parents seem pretty nice, Alice.
Thanks for sharing that story about your mom.

Thanks Scott! They were very nice. I just wish I remembered more about them (especially my mom).
My parents were also older than most parents in my elementary school. (The Greatest Generation vs. The Baby Boomers). I was a little embarrassed about that until my dad told me his Marine stories during WWII. I was a teen so I was COMPLETELY freaked out that my very cool and gentle dad actually killed a Japanese soldier.
He stopped telling me stories and THAT is the biggest regret in my life.
At 41 I feel like I'm searching for my place in this world EVEN MORE than when I was in my 20s. My parents were good people. I just wish I had their guidance.

I have pics of my dad when he could have been a J. CREW model. The 40s were the BEST era for fashion... and the stumpy figure.
Wish my scanner worked!
You look like your dad Bobby.

40s fashion was THE Best! My parents looked SO cool!
I have a pic of my dad on top of a rock. He had this REALLY great jacket and awesome pants and shoes that would make J. Crew take notice.
And my mom had THE best skirt suits and shoes.
Then it all went to hell in the 70s when polyester was king!
I'm trying to figure out a way to get them scanned so I can post hem here.
