This crap shouldn't be on TV. It's become way too big, and a way for psychotic parents to bully their kids into the spotlight.

Plus, I think good spelling skills are vastly overrated. I mean, you should do well enough to not look like a dumbshit, but the fact you can spell a word like "guerdon" doesn't mean you're smart. It almost seems to me to be some sort of idiot savant thing, like those dudes who can tell you the square root of 17 to 15 decimal places without a calculator, but can't tell you how much change you're going to get if you have $1 and spend 75 cents.

i saw part of this on tv and was impressed that it doesnt seem to be about knowing the word and how its spelled, but more about where the word comes from and therefore how it should be spelled. being a poor speller the rules always seemed arbitrary to me
