Have you had any problems with the console, noticed any issues with the disc reading, or anything of that nature yet?

The reason I ask is because I'm going to be looking in to buying a BluRay player later this summer. Right now, it would seem the PS3 is the best bargain...you basically get the player and the console for the same price as a normal Sony BluRay.

My concern, though, is that what will happen here is the same thing that happened with the original Xbox's DVD capability.

I used to use the Xbox as my DVD player too...between playing games and watching movies, the laser developed some serious issues reading both games and DVDs after only about a year and a half of use.

I'll go with a normal player if that's a potential problem, but if everything seems similar, I may go with the PS3.

I've had mine for almost a year, and I've used it for Blu-Rays quite a bit and I haven't had any problems. Of all the next gen consoles the PS3 has been the most reliable.

not only is the ps3 the best value, its simply the best player, and one of the few systems that is upgradeable as well.

if you worryabout the longevity of it then purchase whatever extended warranty is available from wherever you plan on buying it.

My first one quit reading discs after a couple of weeks. I exchanged it, haven't had a problem yet. It's only been about 6 months though.

It makes standard DVDs look real nice too.
