I've slowly been clearing out my parents attic for them and the other day I came across my C64 stuff. I hooked everything up but couldn't get it to work. I tried fucking around with it but the drive was shot. I think I remember it stopping working before I put it up there. So, out in the trash it went with a few hundred games. I remember how excited I was when I got it for Christmas. And then I saw a Sears catalog online a few months ago from 83 or 84 when I got it and that fucker was like $700 for everything. I never knew it was that much. I told my father and he said he must have been drunk to spend that much money on me.

A few months ago I found my old Radio Shack Color computer in a corner of my basement. I pulled it out, hooked it up to a tv (hah !) and powered up with the "Dungeons of Daggorath" game. It actually worked. I was so excited. I showed it to my kids, they laughed at the crappy graphics, yawned at the slow play, and went back to their wii.
Oddly enough, my Xbox is fucking dead, but my original NES from '85 still works like a charm.
I barely have an issue loading games (which was a big problem, because of the horizontal game slot), after giving each game a nice scrubbing with Q-tip dipped in rubbing alcohol.
Played a rousing game of Castlevania III a couple days ago.
I vaguely remember playing a Commodore 64 about 10 years ago or so...better than the ColecoVision and the god-awful IntelliVision, but no match for the Atari 2600 (especially when they started releasing the Atari Porn games...nothing like a game where the object is to get General Custard to the Injun woman so he can rape her for points...yeah, that really existed).

My dad still has our old Commodore 64 and our awesome Amiga in safe storage, and wehn we last tried them out a few years ago they still worked. My brother and I were hooked on the C64 back in the 80's...I remember having like 30 floppies that had at least a dozen games on each.
Shit, what were the commands?
Load "*", 1, 2 or something like that? And then "Run?"

Noooooooooo!!!!!!!!. you threw it out oh holey jesus. Now that i've had a heart attack. Mine still works :(... iv'e been collecting games and software when ever i come accross it. Aswell i pick up old units from time to time for spare parts. They are verry prone to static caused death. I love my 64 as well as my old amigo 3000. that has since gone to the grave yard but there are still some fond memories

The command line to boot up a disk was LOAD "*",8, 1 (or ,2 depending on whether you used a floppy or tape drive) ... all those hours of "Lords of Conquest" and "Mail Order Monsters (http://www.lemon64.com/?mainurl=http%3A//www.lemon64.com/reviews/view.php%3Fid%3D154)" in our basement beat out "Potty Pigeon" ... until we started to fight about how to play "Mail Order Monsters":

Beastfu was the worst basic ability, unless you had the T-Rex. Then it ruled.
I really miss "Lords of Conquest (http://www.lemon64.com/?mainurl=http%3A//www.lemon64.com/reviews/view.php%3Fid%3D154)" ... I get my fix from Sid Meier's "Civilization" games now.
And I think, of the 4 of us, I was the only one who enjoyed "Ultimate Wizard (http://www.lemon64.com/?mainurl=http%3A//www.lemon64.com/reviews/view.php%3Fid%3D154)"
Now I'm all nostalgic...*sigh*

i had the 128...not sure what the difference was, but I would have to type go64 or something like that and then run to get to the 64 version.
had a bunch of games for it, but the wrestling game was my favorite. Summer/Winter Games was pretty cool also.
I had a computer class my senior year of high school and we had to program a simple game on the Commodore 64 and save it on cassette tape.
Seriously.

The C64 had a 64KB of RAM while the 128 had a 128KB of RAM. So...technically, the 128 was faster.

I guess I wasn't cool enough for the Commodore 64.
I got the Commodore VIC20. It had a game where you were a toothbrush running around a horrble looking set of teeth chasing plaque. Swear to Jesus.

I played just about every game on the commodore but I used to LOVE the Olympic Game. They had games on that thing that wasnt even olympic events! If I'm remembering correctly they had like a log throw, cliff diving, and that old redneck game where 2 people have to stand on a floating log. Some shit like that. All I know is my cousin and I would just play tourney after tourney.

the 128 was considered more the busines machine then the c64. It had a faster clock speed and 128k of adressable ram. think it was in 4 banks . The 128 could run in 64 mode as well as cp/m mode. There is still a market for the c64 and paripharils i've recently bought a joystick that had c64 games on it but with a little tweeking you can attach a hard drive and keyboard and basicaly have a 64 system minus some of the serial comunications. If your intrested in visiting your roots VICE is the name of an emulator program that does a good job of running old c64 disk images as well as other devices used with the 64. There is a small group of individuals that have there systems attached to the internet for calling into to experience the old bbses of late. SYNCterm is a good pc terminal program to use for conecting to the bbs's that are online it supports the comodore graphics in 40 or 80 colum mode.

Hahaha... Thanks, I haven't though of the hole punch trick in about 100 years... too funny. I have this dream of building an entertainment room/computer room where all my old games and computers are hooked up to large screen theater setup... then again I have this dream of owning a Ferrari...

Mail Order Monsters was the best! Really the precursor of the Pokemon games to come years later.
