Looking forward to it. Smith and Rogan are smart, funny mofos in a dirty, dirty way.

Hate that chick, though. I couldn't stand her on Scrubs. She's comes across as someone who thinks everything they say or do is insanely clever and funny, but is in actuality the complete opposite of both.

Really? I like her in an odd way. I can't really describe it. It was a nice shock when I saw her in Invincible and was like, hey, its the whore from 40 Year Old Virgin!

But back to the movie, I'm pretty excited for it. I've been dying for another Smith movie.

I've been waiting for a fresh, funny and exciting Kevin Smith movie for probably over a decade. Ive stuck by my fandom for way too long of "ho hum" indifferent feelings of his work

the thing that completely made me into "I really think this will be great" mode, is i read a review saying that Kevin Smith has the characters do a lot of the "low budget filmmaking" techiniques he did when he was making "Clerks". So its a low budget filmmaking comedy from the guy who made "Clerks"..that sounds great!

I've heard it feels much more like a Judd Apatow movie than a Kevin Smith one.

I'd argue Apatow films aways felt like Kevin Smith films, just with more money and better actors.

Though that's pretty broad, since Smith sticks pretty tightly to his scripts and Apatow and company improv like crazy. Still, Smith's R-rated "bro-comedies" definitely helped set things up for what we're seeing Apatow et al doing now.

What happened to Kevin that all his movies have to be at least half chick flick? It was funny for the most part, but a lot like Clerks 2 it petered out at the end cause it was all sappy horseshit. I love Clerks and Dogma cause I don't have to deal with that shit, and its probably why Reservoir Dogs is my all time favorite movie. The one woman in the whole movie gets shot before she can even open her mouth.

I saw it yesterday afternoon in a theater of about half a dozen people.

After Clerks 2 (which I liked a lot), I was hoping Kevin Smith was in a return to form, but I wasn't blown away by this one. I'm usually a fan of Kevin Smith's dialog, but here it seemed really labored and forced. I rolled my eyes at all the lame race jokes (Can we retire the "What do you mean [insert some thing black-related]?" joke in movies already?), and the sex talk was dull. I really wanted to like this one, particularly since I've become a fan of Kevin's SModcast, but I just wasn't all that impressed.

In response to Dirtbag, I think marriage has changed Kevin a lot. I actually didn't mind the sappiness in Clerks 2. I think he managed to balance the raunchiness and sappiness pretty well there. The balance seemed a lot more clumsy and forced in Zack and Miri.

i liked the film..but yeah, at the end it turned very "chick flicky". Comedies should always save their funniest stuff for the third act because thats the impression you're left with

And i felt weird at the end but then 5mins into the credits they resolved a lot of the story..that was an odd choice, if they had that stuff as the end and not a "credit cookies" it wouldve improved this film a lot

and it is kevin smith's best film since atleast "Dogma". I hated "Clerks 2" and as bad as "Jersey Girl" was recieved I actually think its a worse movie than people give it credit for. "Jersey Girl" was one of the worst things ever made

Also, i wanted to say that Seth Rogen is a great comedic actor. He has amazing timing and acting. I also wonder why Jeff Anderson never shows up in non-Kevin Smith films..hes great

Come on.

It's a remarkably unremarkable film, but you really think it belongs in, say, the bottom 10 films ever made?

Shit, I don't even think it's Smith's worst film.

If I ranked his, I'd go like this:

Chasing Amy
Clerks
Dogma
Zack & Miri
Clerks II
Jersey Girl
Mallrats
Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back

I finally watched Mallrats again for the first time this cenury and I could barely make it through it. Jason Lee rocks it, but everythins else is wretched. Shit, watching the film with the commentary is finitely funnier than just watching the film. Affleck is hysterical on those commentaries.

there is so much depth to the badness of "Jersey Girl" that i dont even know where to begin to talk about how bad it is. There is so much badness to that movie that when people talk about why the movie is bad their are parts they don't even talk about

but the main thing about "Jersey Girl" was it was the phoniness movie ever made. Nothing felt real or geniune or natural. It was Kevin Smith trying to do something that wasn't him and failing so miserably.

Like, the very first scene..it was the "who is your daddy and what does he do?" scene from "Kindergarten Cop" but done in the different movie. The kindergarteners are saying what their daddy does...but even instead of having it natural and kidlike like "Kindergarten Cop" did the kids are saying these horrible borscht belt unnatural stand up comic lines..like "my dad and mom are really religious because they go to the bedroom together and i hear mommy say 'oh jesus!' 'oh jesus!'" Just phoney unnatural dialouge that would never happen

there is just so much wrong with that movie. Thats the first scene, but if i had that film in front of me i can do that for every single scene. It was definitley way worse than "Gigli" (which they blamed that film for Jersey Girls failure)

Another thing, I remember Kevin Smith saying before "Jersey Girl" opened "its my most adult film, no more Snoochie Boochies for me, its an adult piece"...meanwhile i go to the theater to see it and its only 14 year old girls in the theater. Some mature adult piece

Also with me, my worst movie list is a mediocre movie with phoney sentiments behind it. Because movies that tend to be considered the "worst movies" (like say "Showgirls") tend to be so bad that its fun..and JG isn't so bad its fun, its just bad

My chick and I saw it last night and we both really loved it. For all it's predictability it was really sweet and there was a lot of really great laughs, particularly out of Rogen. As a filmmaker, I think Zack and Miri's sex scene is maybe his greatest achievement, from the camera work to use of the song to the performances he got out of his actors (particularly Banks) and the layers he imbued behind those performances, it really fucking struck me as just a real accomplishment. Good on him.

I think I kinda know what he's getting at.
This movie is waaay less cartoony than most of KS's other movies. His other movies have moments of goofiness, ya know? There's always SOMETHING that's heavily exaggerated. Or they're mugging for the camera. Or flying away on a batman style grappling hook. Or breaking out into a full-on choreographed dance routine. Or battling a monster made of poo. Or fucking a dead guy. Or a donkey. etc etc.

This movie took place in a semi-realistic universe. I think he meant to say that this movie is way more grounded.

Yes... the fact that a knockout like Elizabeth Banks would go anywhere NEAR a blob like Rogen is pure fiction but, hey... that's the plot.

I thought it was freakin' hilarious. I love Kevin Smith and agree that he has made better films. This was just an easy comedy, but, I don't think there's anything wrong with that. BeerBandit and I saw it last weekend. I laughed so hard, I went into labor the next day. Can't complain there.

I finally got to see this, it's pretty funny but nothing classic to me. As others have said, it's very disposable. I liked it better than Clerks 2 and definitely better than Jersey Girl. It's crude, but it very much had a chick flick feel to it. I think Seth Rogan made the movie.

Are you a fucking idiot?

Did you just say it wasn't juvenile humor? Seriously, that was your point?

I have seen and read and own everything Kevin Smith has ever made, I am a huge fan and wanted this to be great. It was his 2nd worst film only to Jersey Girl.

Amazing I called someone an idiot and got banned for a couple hours till I backed down and yes this film was better than most of the other films he put out, it deserves better than what its getting. My bet is it will be a huge DVD.

And 2nd worst only to JG? Fucking please, quite a few of his films are only good to die hards, mallrats was only good if you were high, jay and silent bob was horrible, dogma is barely watchable, clerks and clerks II are two of his better films and zac & miri is probably tied at number 2 as his best film.

Oh and jersey girl fucking sucked ass, probably one of the worst films of the decade

I thought this movie was great. Clerks is still my favorite to this day, but awesome nontheless. It sucks that this movie did so poorly. Kevin Smith was depressed as shit on smodcast - part of me wanted to hit if the face and tell him to get the fuck over it, you're rich bitch! and the other part of me wants everyone to each by 10 copies because Kevin Smith is the man and it shouldn't have tanked.

I heard that smodcast, and it really is fuckin depressing to listen to. He makes a fantastic point on it though about the formula just not working for some reason... and I agree. I really thought it would be a hit.

i thought it did well at the box office. I mean, i dont know if Kevin Smith expected Apatow numbers but its common sense that you aren't going to get stuff like the family or dating crowds with the word "porno" in the title

Well Smith put it like this, he had right now, the "it" guy as far as R-rated comedy in his movie, and he wasn't expecting to break records, but he was expecting more than barely over Jay and Bob Strike Back.

The problem with using an "it" person is that eventually there is a tipping point where they are just overwhelming. You see them appearing in everything and just choose not to go see them anymore.

I saw it, I liked it. I especially liked the message that sex solves all problems.

i think the "makes a porno" thing overshadowed that though. Like to us, who all know Kevin Smith and arent offended by sex, we don't give a fuck. But i've talked to people my own age and they acted like i was some kinda pervert for seeing a movie with that title.

And "knocked up" and "40 year old virgin", even though they are R-rated movies, families still went together and saw them. Families wouldn't go together and see "Zack & Miri Make a Porno". I think the movie did as well as it was expected to do under those circumstances

That's a damn good point, it just doesn't add up. Oh well I can't wait till it comes out so I can buy it.
