I saw on IMDB.com that Mel Blanc would have been 100 today. They have a poll...

Who is your favorite character he voiced?

Bugs Bunny
Daffy Duck
Porky Pig
Sylvester the Cat
Tweety Bird
Foghorn Leghorn
Yosemite Sam
Barney Rubble
Mr. Spacely
The original Toucan Sam
Speedy Gonzales
Heathcliff
Pepé Le Pew
Marvin the Martian
Road Runner
Wile E. Coyote
Dino

I think it's a toss-up between Daffy Duck and Marvin The Martian.

the later years, they jumped the shark, and he had a few lines

he was quite suave for such a fuck up

now that you mention it, i guess i kinda do remember his voice.

found another great pic. i bet with all those explosives, he's got to get the road runner. i see no chance of him messing up...

Wile E. Coyote......genius

I say, I say Forghorn is my favorite voice

I hated some later cartoons where his son tried to imitate his dad's voice and it was a half octave, or whatever, off

I'd vote for Wile E. Coyote too.

I don't even know if it was a Mel Blanc cartoon, but my favourite one as a kid had to be one where the Road Runner was out sick and Bugs Bunny filled in. It was the same gimmick as always, but Bugs was just talking shit the whole time.

Bugs sure was brand loyal to ACME products.

I gotta say Foghorn too.

Ever see the guy interviewed? Seemed to just love life, and what a life, hes like the Mozart + Hendrix of animation voicing.

Tough one.

I think it all comes down to the writing and directing of the character at certain times.

Early Foghorn was unbelievable, but as time went on he was just a weak caricature of himself.

Daffy started off well but really hit his peak under Chuck Jones. Bugs and Daffy both hit a high point under Chuck.

The random animals don't really count, and Barney Rubble did nothing for me. Porky only had a few high points for me, we get it, you stutter. Sylvester and Tweety, funniest when there was little dialogue.

I'm gonna go with Daffy. Just too many strong performances.

I've thought way too much about this.

He also did a lot of radio work in the 30's and 40's. Here's a picture of a young Melvin Jerome Blanc:

Foghorn Leghorn with the dog is the best. The last one on this clip is my favorite; the one where he paints the dog's tongue green!

Mel provided the sound effects for the Maxwell (old car) on Jack Benny's radio program. That's my fave!!!

If that ain't permissible, I vote Bugs, the goodwill ambassador of the banjo!!!

Ironically, this is the only pic of Bugs playing banjo that I was able to quickly find & it sets a rather poor example... sorry...

Gotta go with Foghorn Leghorn

Since Harvey Korman passed away yesturday, I will go with Barney Rubble. And don't say he's not a Warner Brother's cartoon. Turner bought Hanna-Barberra so they are all in the same family now. And with a screen name of Magillia Gorillaz do you really think I can vote Warner Brothers?

But he's not a Mel Blanc character. BTW... I once saw Barney Rubble chasing a teenager at King's Dominion.

Mel was the original voice of Barney.

Fun fact...Mel hated carrots and they made his throat close up, so when he voiced Bugs chewing a carrot, he was actually chewing celery.

I wish there was footage of him out there doing all of those diferent voices. It seems like a freakin' superpower.

Wow, I've never seen that...thanks, bobo!

I still wish there was footage of him recording in the studio in the glory days of his work. That Letterman clip is great, but that's when he was doing those crappy 80's WB cartoon movies, and al the characters in those tended to sound kinda rundown and often very similar...not faulting the guy, he was damn old at that point!
