Comcast Sportsnet is reporting that the Chicago Blackhawks will play the Detroit Red Wings at Wrigley Field in the NHL's Winter Classic in January.
An official announcement is supposed to be made next week. The Blackhawks were in competetion with the Rangers and Yankee Stadium for the outdoor game, but there were problems with the Yankee Stadium bid. This season's Winter Classic between the Sabres and Pittsburgh in Buffalo drew over 71,000 fans on January 1. It will be quite a game in January to see two of the original six clash in the outdoor game
Should be awesome. Shame they couldn't do it at Yankee Stadium, but I heard the costs were too much to get the plumbing fixed to support an ice rink.
Last years Classic was really a classic, hopefully they can play just as good of a game with a young loaded team like the Blackhawks and the Stanley Cup runners up in the Red Wings ()

Another reason why they didn't want it at Yankee Stadium was because they didn't want the last sports event at the Stadium to not be a baseball game.
Too bad they couldn't do it at Solider Field just from an attendance stand point, but it will be pretty cool to see people in the bleachers watching hockey.

What will they be called now? The Bleacher Bergs? (copyright Ritalin 2008)
The way the weather is, they should combine this with opening day for the cubs.
Finally - and I can say this because I'm from Chicago - this is just another excuse for underdeveloped frat boys to try to bang chubby chicks. The Cubs owe most of their current fan base to drunken chubby chicks. Mojo, you know I'm right.

Most of the younger ladies I see there are very attractive. It's the guys that tend to be hefty.

You are the BDC of Hockey. The Hawks had a resurgence last year even though they didn't make the playoffs. They'll be a lot better next year.

they'll never have the team like in NHL 95 Larmer to Roenick One Timer
I judge all blackhawk teams to that team

Well, maybe not just yet:
The New York Rangers still think they have a chance to host the NHL's Winter Classic at Yankee Stadium next season.
The NHL, the Mayor's office and the Yankees will meet next week to discuss the possibilities. NHL deputy commissioner Bill Daly said "This is not dead yet." Reports on Wednesday seem to have suggested that the Chicago Blackhawks would host the Classic at Wrigley Field, but Daley wouldn't confirm that this was officially true. "The only two options at this point are Yankee Stadium and Wrigley Field," Daly said. "Wrigley Field is not done." Stay tuned.

Larmer was on the rangers in NHL 95, he was part of that trade that sent Amonte to Chicago.
