This looks really good

David Simon of the wire and Ed Burns writing it

Good cast

looks to be one of the best new series of the year
imdb (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0995832/fullcredits#writers)
trailer (http://www.hbo.com/events/generationkill/)

is anyone else as excited for this thing as i am?

Looking forward to it. The book was a great read, and David Simon sure hasn't stumbled yet with anything he's written.

If it was the other Ed Burns, this would be doomed to suck.

Dude did Brothers McMullen...and then has just played himself in every role or has written a variation of the same film ever since.

What the fuck...I got home way late last night, so I missed the replays. I saw a commercial saying it was on On Demand, but I can't find it there.

So I watched the first 2 episodes on Friday. Pretty riveting. Ziggy is amazing, I know a couple of marines and I think he nails it.

This is a pretty damn good series so far.

I would put it on par with Band of Brothers as far as military based entertainment and I watch BoB everytime I come across it on TV.

This series is amazing.

Personally, I'd put it ahead of BoB a bit because it's not covered with the same haze of memory as that series is, though that series is incredible.

With both, I wish they weren't just one-time miniseries.

I am a fan. I read the articles back in 2003 as well as the book. The mini series is pretty close to dead on.

I like the fact "Fruity Rudy" plays himself. He isn't the best actor but it's cool that it is actually him.

The one thing that I don't like is the guys that play "Encino Man" and Capt Patterson look some much alike, it can be hard to figure out who is who.

Caught 1 and 2. It satisfies enough to watch a few more.
The troop movement feels contrived, but some of the characters are pretty decent.

My boyfriend just picked up the book this week and it got me thinking how pathetic it is that I probably know less about the Iraq war--something that is happening during my adulthood--than I do about the great war or WWII. Or shit, even the American civil war. So I'm looking forward to having my turn when he's done reading.

I love this series so far... I find myself talking about it with people all the time. Like Melissa the Accountant I am surprised at how little I really knew about what was kinds of things go on out there. General knowledge about what our troops are up to, what trickles back to us through the media, isn't enough... we should know details.

Some of the abbreviations are over my head, some of them I can't even figure out through context clues, but I'm getting it... slowly but surely.

Referring to white trash people as "whiskey tangos" is my new favorite thing.

How so?

I think the movement is one of the greatest things about the show.

During my time in the military I spent a lot of time in a Humvee like these guys and I can relate to some of the strange conversations that take place when your stuck in close quarters with three other guys.

One of the other great things about the show is it illustrates the hours upon hours of incredible boredom that is punctuated by short periods of excitement. Even though the guys in the movie are Marines and take every opportunity to bag on the Army it looks pretty close to what my Army experience was as far as supply shortages, leadership vacuums and missions that just made no sense.

I picked up the book version of this a few days ago and havent been able to put it down. The destruction that was inflicted by our troops on the civilian populace is pretty troubling.

It certainly makes you think how you would react if a foreign army came into our country and commited some of the acts that are described in the book. It also makes the Abu Gharib controversy pale in comparison.

This guy, Capt. America is the best part of the show for me.

"Its a slaughterhouse down there."
"Jesus, Mary and Joseph I got good men dying in there"

He delivers those cliche lines so perfectly. Good show overall. It took me 4 weeks to realize that Oscar Mike means "On the move"...and Im still not positive thats even what it means. The Ziggy guy is way over rated to me.

With about 10 minutes left in last weeks show I realized that.
