i have a honda civic that i share from timie to time with my brother. every time we have to trade the keys and the little beeper thing that turns off the car alarm.

2 questions. 1. can i just disengage the alarm for once and for all? its a 97 civic... 2. if not, where can i buy a second beeper for this car?

aftermarket
From someone who did this for years:
You're far better having the entire alarm removed if you don't want it anymore, there are way too many potential issues with leaving it in disabled. Most refutable shops will charge 45-50 dollars to remove it. If not you can attempt to remove the fuse from the brain for the unit. PM me if you need a list of good shops in your area or if you want remove the knee panel under the steering wheel and take a picture and ill try to walk you through it.

You can buy a second fob, depending on the type of alarm and the age of it. If the alarm was put in in 97 you have a worse chance then if you have an 05 model alarm. Is there a brand name on the remote?

i second that! the supposedly disabled alarm in my car started acting up recently. the blinkers would come on randomly (i had already disconnected the siren) even while driving. on occasion, i could not start the car without disconnecting and reconnecting the battery to 'reset' the alarm.

got it removed for $60 bucks, and i've been fine ever since. if anyone wants to steal my 13 year old, 3 hubcap, 95k mile, jewel of a car, so be it. actually they'll have to get past the impenetrable CLUB if they really want it!

I don't recommend it, but at least make sure the primary driver has the remote at all times and that all drivers know how to manually disarm the alarm.

Things that can throw a car out of valet mode:
Unusual lock/unlocking sequences
Unusual door open/close sequences
Low/Dead/Replacing battery
Blown fuses
Jumpstarting
