This weekend, my XBox 360 was having issues connecting to xbox live. I played for an hour or two this afternoon, turned it off and a couple hours later, turned it back on and it wasn't sending video. I tried pulling video plugs to no avail. Unfortunately, I pulled a little too hard and the XBox (which was on), fell on its side. I turned it off, pulled all plugs (power, internet, video), plugged them back in and it looked fine.

So I let it boot up GTA4, which was in the drive at the time, and the drive stopped spinning at the end of the girl with the lollipop. It stayed quiet for the guys playing dominoes, and when it hit the next picture, it said the disc couldn't be loaded. I tried a couple times then flipped in Guitar Hero 3 and it loaded fine (didn't play it, so it was only in a couple minutes).

So did I damage the disc? Is the xbox just having probs because of the internet and video things? Do I need to buy a new copy of GTA to find out?

Mine sometimes will lose video and your Internet problem is probably just your Internet. I think what happened was when you knocked your console over it knocked the disc out of place and it couldn't read it.

Have you tried GTA IV again after taking it out?

Yes. after GH3. No luck.

If you knock over your console while a disc is in there, the 360 will damage the disc. Did you flip it over and check? It usually makes a circular scratch in the back of the disc

have you looked at the disc to see if its scratched?

console falls/disc spins into holder/disc gets scratched/disc no longer plays?

The internet issues could be related to the xbox live service. Every once in a while Live cuts out or fails to connect and I'll read later it was just their technical issues.

As for the disc drive, if the drive was spinning when you dropped it the disc may have scratched the lens. If it's just the disc it's easy to tell cuz you would see a circular scratch on the optical side.

Try more games to see if you get the dirty disc error, try putting the 360 vertical or horizontal, otherwise try a dvd cleaner...

Dirty disc errors are common for 360's, I'm on my second 360 and still get them from time to time. They come and go.

One thing about Microsoft is they seem to have an awful lot of console problems, both when the Xbox came out years ago and quite a few I've heard of with the 360 now.

I had the original...part of the reason I didn't go with the 360 this time around was because my Xbox disc laser got dirt on it way too often, which was a pain in the ass to clean, and burned out ridiculously fast, so I just didn't trust Microsoft on this one.

In fact, I just trashed my old Xbox today.

it might fuck up the ps3 but I dont think the coating would allow the disc to get fucked up. Although I do not know one person who has a PS3 who has had disc load or any other problems. And I dropped my PS2 all the time with discs in and it was always fine

The disc scratched when it fell. bought a new copy last night and worked fine. I just have to return the damaged copy now. :)

And any cd/dvd/blu-ray/etc. device will scratch the disc if the disc hits the head while it is spinning. The question is the extent of the damage.

I rubbed the bottom of a blu ray PS3 game on the corner of a rough wood desk out of anger one day for a good 30 straight seconds. As HARD as I could, intending to scratch the shit out of it. I flipped it over and the only thing on it was my finger prints. Completely scratch free
