i just had an ATI X700 PRO AGP 256mb die on me.

it was in an AMD 3500 Athlon 64 based system with an ABIT VIA K8T800 PRO 939 ATX motherboard. i have 1gb of RAM if that matters.

so i need to replace this card with anything that is a little bit better for as cheap as possible. (not sure how much longer i will use this system, next one surely wont have AGP).

i have been looking at AGP cards at newegg but i am way out of loop now regarding what is good. can anyone help me pick out a replacement card? (doesnt have to be at newegg)

thanx for any help!

edit - newegg's AGP cards link

little more info :P i would spend around 100 bucks if it would get me something that might run warhammer online at medium'ish settings, if anyone is familiar with what it is going to take approx. to run that game when it comes out (still up in the air exactly i know).

anyone have an opinion on the 100 dollar range cards?

I have been working on buying a new computer forever - and in my search I noticed on the nvidia website you can compare the products pretty well...

Just for kicks I want to say the 8800GT is phoenominal. That doesnt help you but its good information none the less...

AGP is starting to get a little outdated, so most of the cards are under $100 anyway.

This one is probably your best deal at $104

the 8800GS is the AGP equivalent of the PCI-E 8800GT. It's about the fastest they'll make an AGP card and it's the best bang for the buck. Any more speed than that and your older slower CPU will be a bottleneck and slow your whole system down.

To go faster than that you'll have to go for a PCI-E which a means whole new computer.
