Ugh.

So, the first season of this show was great. And the 2nd season was pretty good. Then they rushed a 1st v 2nd season, and then Jay Mohr stopped hosting and the show just fell apart. The last season I watched was the one where the palsey kid won. It was awful. It probably was the single worst season of any television show I've ever watched.

This season, I decided to tivo it because Tall Sam of the Sam and Sam show and O&A is leaving to pursue his standup career and there's been some message board talk that he might be on LCS. Well, I haven't seen him yet, and this show is as bad as ever. Almost none of the comics are funny. They have a guy who does impressions that don't actually sound like the people he's doing. And twins that just talk over each other and make twin "jokes".

But there's nothing on television now, so I'll probably keep watching this abortion of a reality show. Is anyone else causing themselves pain and watching the show?

I have to WAIT to see LCS rerun on Bravo because it shows opposite So You Think You Can Dance, the most amazing show evah!

I like the auditions- just the amazing number of people who roll out of bed and say "Fuck it, I've never cracked a mic before, but I feel funnier than Doug Benson."

The people "judging" the auditions are terrible, too. Half of them have no business judging comics, they just all have some connection to NBC.

Dude, you are right. My friend auditioned, and was glad to report that he, a comic with 10 years experience, was rejected by Norm and Cliff from Cheers, two character actors who haven't worked in 15 years.

uggh

watched it last night

so hack

I knew who was gonna be picked

then who would get picked last ( the veteran) for the drama

I gave it once chance

at Fatty Najemy is NOT a comic scout

and also Fatty Soprano is an awful judge of comedy

Instead of picking the funniest people, they have to be a politically correct combination of men, women, black, Asian, handicapped, etc. The only smart thing they do is put this on in summer when nothing else is on (the one time they tried the fall, they got creamed).

hack-ass crap comics...

the judges cut people for making jokes about punching and killing babies. i get it, it's gotta be saccharine for prime time, but that doesn't go well with the funny.

I'm not sure if anyone still watches this show but can we talk about who made it to the finals?

That impressionist dude Marcus seems like a plant to me. He's not funny at all. His routine for the semi finals was one of the unfunniest things I've ever seen.

The girl Iliza is alright but she's clearly going for the Dane Cook act.

I liked Sean Cullen's act to get into the semi-finals but his routine this time was not funny.

Louis Ramey was funny as hell.

I gave up after Jay Mohr left as well. He was the best!

The show collects the most unfunny people around and provides a national platform for them.

Maddening.

Marcus is the least funny but yeah Papa CJ is a piece of shit. He sounds like he's reading off a script. He doesn't belong in comedy.

A couple of people I know are in the show this season. One of my freinds Angry Bob made it to the first semis, morst of them didn't make it past that.

Except for these guys who I saw a bunch of times years ago. They performed where I worked a lot of time.

They were and still are the shit. They call themselves God's Pottery.

I'm so glad they've made it so far.

I don't agree with the judges they picked at all. What does Steve Schirippa have to do with comedy?

Also Belzer really pissed me off when he said he's "Allergic to Ethnic Humor and comedy shouldn't be offensive". Granted the guy he was critiquing had a dopey WWII bit that wasn't even close to funny. Belzer doesn't have the balls to tell someone they're not funny. Then he said the complete opposite when the Korean chick finished her, My family is Korean and... shtick. He said that her ethnic humor and writing was brilliant. Fuck Belzer.

Here's my self indulgent thoughts on the LCS finalists:

Adam Hunter - good presence, overconfident about his material.

Esther Ku - female Dat Phan. We get it you're Korean and your family has a different culture.

God's Pottery - funny before the even open their mouths, very funny material, brilliant timing.

Iliza Shlesinger - stereotypical female comic complete with doing guy/girl voices. Gives great female comics a bad name.

Jeff Dye - predictable material, trying too hard to be Dane Cook.

Jim Tavare - very dry, would appeal more to a niche audience, I think he's very funny.

Louis Ramey - good material, solid performer, pretty funny.

Marcus - good presence, decent material, trying too hard to be Dane Cook.

Papa CJ - Awful, Dell call center jokes don't cut the mustard mister.

Paul Foot - Odd material, very funny. Make me think he's the spawn of Eric Idle and Mitch Hedberg.

Ron G - from the "I'm funny because I talk fast, make noises, and walk aroud the stage like I own it." School of comedy.

Sean Cullen - seems like a classicly trained stage actor turned to comedy. I think he's got some good material.

I know nobody cares what I think, I'm just putting it out there.

It really has become the worst show ever. That chick that's kinda the host on there, the British one. She has the comedic timing of a news anchor woman. Just trying to be funny, but can't quite pull it off. That shit where she was meeting the foreign contestants at the airport, and dressing like there nationality's.......I shut it off then and haven't looked back.

They did the second cull in Vegas and it is obvious that this is about looks and ratings. The comics are: cute guy, cute girl, cute guy, weird English guy, cute guy, cute girl, weird English guy. To watch Eddie Pepitone and Dan Cummings get thrown over for the adorable, unfunny Esther Ku was hard to take, and now I don't have anyone to root for, only to root against.

I agree with the Esther Ku not funny consensus. I almost turned it off when they called her as one of the finalists.
I also don't find Sean Cullen funny either. I was disappointed when he got picked over a couple of the other Canadian comics.

I only know he was frickin' hot, in a Sacha Baron Cohen way. I thought the props were a good way to get over the language barrier, that stuff would have been funny anywhere.

But really- does a prop comic have enough and different material to make it to the end? Does God's Pottery? Philosophy!

Iliza did her best impersonation of Kyle Cease/Dane Cook its so fucking obvious.

God's Pottery actually made me laugh, yet they get voted off because the producers think that they needs girls on the show.

I also like how all the hack comedians in the back are critiquing the work of the comedians. Especially Esther Ku, how they're saying all her jokes are the same, and PAPA FUCKING CJ is nodding his head. WTF. I hate these fucking assholes.

Iliza's actually funny. She reminds me of Bonnie McFarlane, who I liked.

Ramey and Cullen are contenders, and I think it's telling that Ramey said they should have Adam Hunter clean house. I thought Hunter had one of the strongest semi-final sets.

I actually think the "try this type of comedy" contests are working. They actually have challenges that make some sense now in the context of a comedy competiiton. But I thought Jamie Kennedy and Rich Eisen did a horrible job judging the "boxing" contests.

Whould it be possible to pick someone, you know, one off our naturally funny members and write an act for him or her and send them on this stupid show to clean up..
I suggest Jeff Jauble, he's already plenty funny without us..We'd just have to beef him up a bit..Make it foolproof, 100% chance of sweeping this thing..
Then we subtract expenses and donate the remainder of the prize money (it is for money right?)..I bet we could do it..

Sean Cullen seems to have a very love-him-or-hate-him act. I like a lot of his stuff, but some of it is a little too offbeat for the mainstream.

This was my first season watching the show (sorry Jay). Was it just me, or did they spend entirely too much time on the auditions. It was way too much time spent with freaks and mediocre comics, and then one show to whittle down the people who passed audition, two shows in "the house" and then the finals, which makes it seem like it's ending abruptly. Anyone else feel like they should whittle down the time they spend on auditions?

I thought Jeff Dye had the best set last night. I don't know if it will translate into nationwide votes, but Eliza Schlesinger got tremendous pop from the crowd the moment she stepped onstage, so it looks like winning two straight challenges has garnered her a fanbase. I thought the biggest train wreck was Adam Hunter. It was almost like, because it was the biggest set of his life, he tried to throw out as many of his best jokes as possible rapid fire, with no consideration of connecting one joke to the next in any meaningful fashion.

I think Louis Ramey is going to win it all, but Eliza Schlesinger has a shot at beating him.

I thought Marcus made a mistake not going with his best stuff last night - his impressions needed to be worked into the act more... he was myfavorite to win - but I just didn't think his set was that good last night... I actually think I have heard a lot of that material before - making fun of how Eddie Vedder sings is pretty old news...

Louis Ramey is my favorite on the show at this point - I again thought he was the funniest up there...

All the Dane Cook impressions are driving me nuts on the show... as much as I hate Ron G - at least he did his own material... Iliza should send $125,000 to Dane if she wins...

I was in the Anti-Sean Cullen group... he comedy wasn't for me - but his interactions during the show were hillarious...

This is exactly what happened...

It also hurt all the other contestants that their performances were overshaddowed by the fact we were still finding out who was being eliminated. This really was rigged by the amount of time they had Iliza on the screen - how she again was last to perform - and how the fan favorite in the house, Marcus, went first in the previous show. Two hours later he was an afterthought... I am not the biggest Marcus fan but he was the "favorite" going into the finals - it seemed pretty calculated to stick him where they did...
