I just read an article on AICN (http://www.aintitcool.com/node/36816)that a Green Arrow movie is in the works at Warner Bros. Called Supermax, it's about Ollie getting framed for murder and thrown into a prison housing DC universe supervillains. David Goyer who has scripted a number of superhero movies, including Blade, Blade II and Batman Begins, is producing.

It looks like this movie was announced last year, and I would bet it won't get made. In fact, it's not even listed on imdb.com, but it's an interesting take by Warner Bros. and different from your usually superhero movie.

Yeah, the original article came out last year originally. I think it would be more interesting to take the Mike Grell approch and not call him Green Arrow thru most of the movie.

For those who don't know, Mike Grell wrote the book for about 70 issues, and "Green Arrow" appears in the book once, in the first issue, and doesn't even directly refer to Ollie at the time.

I think the problem is that DC is really invovled in making DC movies. I think Warner Bros. as a corporate affiliate makes the movies, and DC isn't involved that much.

Could be wrong though.

Oh no i agree, but look at what Marvel has done by taking control of their entities

DC needs to follow the lead of Marvel if possible and form their own company

But again i go back to teh fact that i believe that DC characters outside of Batman and Superman just arent as well known to the mainstream america

The problem with DC is that unlike Marvel, DC has a corporate parent, Warner Bros., that makes the decisions about forming "companies." They may say that DC doesn't need to form such a company because they have movie making as corporate entities already.

But again i go back to teh fact that i believe that DC characters outside of Batman and Superman just arent as well known to the mainstream america

True, but Marvel has had hits with lesser known heroes that aren't well know to mainstream america, including Blade and Iron Man. Plus, they keep trying with the lesser known heroes, such as Daredevil, Ghost Rider, etc. And Blade was the one that started the marvel movie train off.

Has there ever been a movie about a DC superhero other than Supes and Bats?

Speaking of Marvel getting involved. I'm reading an IGN interview (http://comics.ign.com/articles/874/874809p1.html) of Brian Michael Bendis and he outlines one of the things done with Iron Man:

So [Iron Man] is the first one they've put together themselves. And out of the blue really, I got a call that before they went into active production they wanted to put together what they called an Iron Man Brain Trust. Anyone who they felt had a significant take on Iron Man as a modern character who had a voice for them, they wanted to read the script. And they said if you tell anyone, we'll kill you. So we read the script but had to sign a million non-disclosure agreements, which is why you didn't hear about it until now. Then they flew us out to L.A. to sit in a room with Jon Favreau and all the producers and whomever else, and we were to tell them what we think. First you're very flattered that you're Iron Man is considered up there for this sort of thing, and then you're wondering who really wanted this. But then you find out this was [Favreau's] idea, him and [Marvel Studios President of Production] Kevin Feige.

Ok fair enough, but what character that marvel has made movies from would Green Arrow equate too? My guess would be Daredevil

And is the toxic avenger or swamp thing a DC owned entity? Or i guess the steaming pile that was Catwoman with Halle Berry

Equate in terms of popularity? Daredevil, although Blade is even lesser known.

Forgot about Swamp Thing and Catwoman (toxis avenger is not DC). Also forgot about Constantine.

yeah that would be the problem is that Green Arrow is just not well enough known to warrant a movie that would be a major release i guess is my opinion on it

Does V for Vendetta count as a DC movie since the series started in Brittan but finished over at DC? I'd say that was up there with the new Batman movie. Road to Perdition and A History of Violence were both published by DC, but obviously not super hero movies.

Sounds like a good idea for the Green Arrow movie, except for the fact that being in prison would severely limit the potential for archery.

I wouldn't count V for Vendetta as a DC superhero movie.

Of course, I've argued that V for Vendetta is not even a superhero movie, but I'm not going to make it again.

Then you're not going to let League of Extraordinary Gentlemen sneak in to DC's stable as a technicality? Wait, that doesn't help them in the least. Nevermind.

When I think of a DC movie, I think of a movie that features a character that exists or existed in the DC universe/multi-verse, such that the character could have met or interacted with Superman, Batman, etc. V never existed in that universe, nor did the LOEG.

Steel, Constantine, Swamp Thing, Catwoman -- they all did.

History of Violence and Road to Perdition were books published by DC, but they could have been published by Dark Horse, Marvel or any publishing house.
