Another annoying XM advertisement proves itself to be worthless as well. (http://ap.google.com/article/ALeqM5hiVbMCVhNRRq_8a1uOGWloZYks-QD90QFDAO4)

Davis acknowledged in an interview with The Associated Press that his stunt has led to at least 87 instances in which people have tried to steal his identity, and one succeeded: a guy in Texas who duped an online payday loan operation last year into giving him $500 using Davis' Social Security number.

Paris said the fact Davis' records were compromised at all supports the claim that Tempe, Ariz.-based LifeLock doesn't provide the comprehensive protection its advertisements say it does.

"It's further evidence of the ineffectiveness of the services that LifeLock advertises," said Paris, who is lead attorney on the three new lawsuits, the latest of which was filed this month.

Davis learned about the fraud in Texas when the payday-loan outfit called to collect on the loan, he said. He didn't get an alert beforehand because the company didn't go through one of the three major credit bureaus before approving the transaction.

Davis said it's possible driver's licenses have been issued to other people in his name because of the widespread availability of his personal information — and because of what he described as the flimsy mechanisms in place to report that kind of fraud.

Isn't that what you want us to pay you to avoid happening - deek?

I wrote Todd's social security number on a rock and threw it through his window.

Lifelock didn't do shit to save that window.

I read this story this morning and literally laughed out loud. The dude got scammed.

However, I will say the guy has a point - the loan company didn't follow standard procedure and check with the credit companies before issuing the loan. If they had, a flag would have gone up.

Doesn't this qualify as a "current event" and so it's in the wrong forum (s/b "Politics & Current Events" rather than "Off Topic")?

The lawyers for the people suing LifeLock for false advertising are pushing to get this classified as a class-action suit .... this could be big, you know.

First rule of Lifelock; Don't talk about Lifelock, especially in a commercial where you give out your soc. security number.

But don't the endless, annoying ads say they have a million dollar guarantee? So his loses would be covered.

But you have to admire the nerve, or stupidity, of these guys to use his SSN.

What's not mentioned in the article is the people suing lifelock are the credit reporting companies that sell their own shit and are pissed he's cutting into the bottom line.

Lifelock will cover your losses if something happens. It's actually a pretty good deal, but you can get the same coverage cheaper on your homeowner's policy.

I learned a LOOOOOONG time ago that most radio ads are scams. I spent about $500 on one of those "learn to speak a foreign language" tapes and then went to a store and found similar tapes selling for about $20-40. Plus when I called, it was a real high pressure sales operation. Never again.

The dick pills, credit protection, hair loss remedies, get rich quick schemes, etc. All complete bullshit. Radio is the medium of choice for corrupt businesses for some reason.
