I remember them being everywhere when I was a kid...

We used to live near a mashy area so there were plenty of mosquitos. Dad got one of those big electric beauties one day and hung it from a tree. It sure did entertain the neighborhood kids for a while. We would sit around watching the bugs get zapped. There were lots of oooohs and aaaaahs from the kids, sort of like watching fireworks.
And the next morning, the birds had a feast with the pile of fried bugs that accumulated underneath the light.
I think I have one of the lights down in my basement somewhere. Maybe it is time to hang it up and see if it is anywhere near as entertaining as it was back then.

it has been said that bug zappers make the perfect house warming guest for a neighbor. they attract more bugs than they zap so if your neighbor puts one up all the bugs go to that yard and you can enjoy mosquito free evenings.
i prefer these:

I got a newfangled one last summer and put it up only to find out that it doesn't make any zapping sound whatsoever. Biggest dissapointment ever.

Probably not if you're older than 14.

I have about 4 of them at work and 2 at my house.
I especially love it when some huge housefly that almost flew into my ear gets stuck on the electric part and burns to crisp.
MWAH-HAHAHA. Revenge is soooooooo sweet.

I prefer using miniature tazers. It's more sporting.
