At lunch a few weeks ago my staff and I were talking about the Old Time Life series, Mysteries of the Unknown.

I went on ebay and picked up 4 volumes. They just got here the other day. I have to say it is the best 3 bucks I ever spent.

By far the best of the bunch "The UFO Phenomenon". It has sketches of aliens from people, and they are ridiculous. One looks like a gray alien in drag, another looks like a carrot. They are like a crappy alien abduction website in print.

If you haven't ever seen them, you need to track one down, they kick ass.

I never saw that series, but growing up, I had the Old West series. I LOVED them! I think one of my brothers has them all, now.

My dad still has the Old West series floating around in the attic somewhere. I remember looking for the couple he was missing at garage sales.

WOW! My dad bought me the volumes on supernatural phenomena when I was in middle school. I was fascinated how frogs and fish could "just fall" from the sky. I read them cover to cover one summer.

Wish I still had them.

I admit-- I'm not so much into UFOs anymore but I AM a ghost enthusiast. I LOVE ghost stories.

Have you read Lord Halifax's Complete Ghost Book (http://www.amazon.com/Lord-Halifaxs-Complete-Ghost-Book/dp/1555211232/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1211464199&sr=8-1)? That was one of my favorites ... it's out of print now, but you can probably get it through the library.

There's also How to Find a Ghost (http://www.amazon.com/How-Find-Ghost-James-Deem/dp/0395468469/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1211464318&sr=1-1), although it's written for the middle-school set, but it's pretty good. (Also out of print, unfortunately.)

I've never bought into UFO's. Which makes the History Channel unbearable some days when they show their UFO-logy and cryptozoology shows ... god-awful.

So when you burn yourself with hot coffee, does your sister, miles away, feel it?

Damn, I had those when I was a kid....got them for my 8th birthday, I think. Donated them to my local library a few years later when I moved, so if anyone checks them out from the library in Reston, VA, that's all me, baby.

I remember the commercials. Husband and wife in bed and she keeps telling him "Just read the book!"

My dad did some illustrations for the Home Improvement Time-Life series books. I remember him making me or my brother pretend to do stuff like sand a floor and he'd take a polaroid so he'd have a model to draw from. He got a copy of the entire series plus pay for his work.

I think it's awsome that your dad could draw that well? My dad couldn't even draw a steady paycheck..

I hope so.

I SO understand that; you have NO idea!

My sister and I hated each other SO much that when my dad was in the hospital he told me to lock my bedroom door at night when I'd come home on weekends from college.

Just noting: I'm surprised A.J. didn't reply to this thread. Seems like he'd have these books or at least comment on them.

And then she'd hit him with it because he didn't tell us about the discount.

You missed a comma. If I was calling you a douche, I would have said, "Isn't that the Encyclopedia Brittanica, douche?"

No comma - I was calling the kid in the ad a douche.

I got in trouble for ordering these for myself when I was eight! I still remember the hot tears on my cheeks as I clutched the one with the crystal skull on it to my chest.

It's not so much that I hate my sister, exactly, it's just that ... she's SO annoying! Some of it is typical early-20's stuff, but some of it is rude, obnoxious and self-centered.
