Hello,
Running windows XP Home SP3. Never got this before. When ever I start up my computer I get the following pop up at start up

Identity Login.
It says the following. "Another application has the switch identities or identity login dialog showing. Choose an identity in that dialog before launching the application again."

I don't know why I am getting this. The only thing I did recently on my computer was install Microsoft telescope and then remove it. Ever since removing it I have been getting this pop up at start up. I think it has something to do with Microsoft calender reminder. I don't know, but it is annoying as hell, just the fact that it is popping up.

Anyone have any info please let me know.

Thanks.

Somebody else had that problem in August, somewhere in the interwebs (http://forums.techguy.org/web-email/607919-another-application-has-switch-indenties.html), but it looks like no one was able to help him either.

a few quick things:

(first do a system restore and save a restore-point)

- make sure there's nothing in your Startup folder
- run msconfig, click the Services and Startup tabs and uncheck anything you don't want to have started when the computer boots up.

Microsoft works calendar reminder. I have that starting up. It is a calendar program and when a day with a reminder comes up I get a pop up when the computer starts up. That is the problem. Now have to work on this.

As for MSCONFIG, I know how to use that, just not sure which program or service I can and can't start up.

Thanks for the info.

The Microsoft Works Calendar Reminder proces is wkcalrem.exe. Try unchecking that box in msconfig and see if that doesn't get it.

I did that and I don't get the pop up. But I would like to have the reminders when I start up. So how do I fix that.

Again I had the reminders running for a long time now, now for some reason I am getting that identity login pop up.

Can't figure out how to fix that

sorry not going to do a complete redo and install a new operating system. Microsoft sucks and right now I fuckin hate them. How could installing one thing screw up another..it is just annoying.

Drives me nuts.

You could always uninstall and reinstall Works. Just back up your stuff.

I thought of doing a reinstall but I want to make sure I can back up the calendar stuff first. I do not want to re enter everything.

Anyone know how I can back up the calendar program???

Thanks

What more reason do you need? You can get another hard drive, put Ubuntu on that and dual boot. Then every time you boot up, you can pick which OS you want. Linux can read MS files, and emulate Windows. Give it a try, linux has really come a long way on the desktop.

I'm not familiar with Works or the calendar your referring to, so I can't say for sure there's an open source alternative that will import your files, but you could start with OpenOffice.org (http://www.openoffice.org/)
