Well then...

Anyway, yard work is my therapy. Even if I had the money to pay someone, I would still do it myself.

I did once too, then realized, fire the lawn service = save money. Only took me five year to realize that equation. I buy a walking mower and actually spend some time outdoors, maybe not quality nature time, but it was a great move; I seem to be one of the few on my street who cuts his own lawn, and not with the kind you sit on, which, no offense to anyone who owns one, is just weak, unless said person has some enormous lawn.

One less check to write a month is so worth it for me.

And R+F were mentioning cool machines today, and few things are more satisfying then running over some random bit of branch or stick or kitten or hedge and hearing those blades slam into the wood with that awesome sound I cant even imagine what letters to use to represent.

How do you spell the sound of a lawn mower running over some clump or hitting a hard object?

i marvel at the hysteria with having a lawn look like a lawn. its the most unnatural thing. towns will even fine people for letting their yards grow wild. id prefer a lawn that was more meadow-like, overgrown and natural

I read in my local paper today, that there's an obscure law here that mandates no grass be higher than two inches. They're even supposed to maintain a force of grass narcs to monitor the lawns!

i still cut the grass for my ex and daughters... cutting is easy, got a rider mower and hitting the edges with the push mower ain't bad... weed wacking sucks plus the washer on the weed wacker gas container is no good and i get gas all over my shirt/under my arm each time i use it

you'd think I'd get a new washer

plus i throw all the clippings into a trailer... i'll wait till i'm done with 3 or 4 mowings which means 3 or 4 weeks and then take the clippings to the dump... P U it stinks and i rake it off.

this spring i had the trailer stuffed with leaves and grass from last year. it took me 45 minutes to rake it off, i thought i was gonna have a heart attack cause it was all matted down from rain and when i crushed it all down by stompin on it in the fall... i had two nasty blister between my thumb and forefinger... it's funny how you don't feel the blisters till you stop working

If you have a lawn, cut it and make it nice. People that have a lawn and cut it themselves are generally OK people. That leaves either people that have a lawn and treat it like shit or people that have enough money to pay someone else to take care of the lawn. I say Fuck that. If you are lucky enough to have even a small piece of land, why not make it look good?
Plus, you're outside, you have music, beer, etc...and bingo-bango>>>You're on your way.:smoke:

For the first lawn (other than my own) that I ever mowed, I got five bucks. I used the cash to buy a Magical Mystery Tour LP. I honestly think it's been years since I've seen a kid mow a lawn.

I've had my first lawn for about a month now, and I have a human-powered old school lawn mower. No big deal, but does it matter if you leave the clippings where they fall? I know most gas mowers come with a bag attachment, just curious about the necessity.

Eventually, the clippings will matte into the ground and choke out your lawn.

That's fine if you have a meadow in the country somewhere, but not in a neighborhood. It would look too trashy.

NNNOOOOOO!!!

but with his case maybe.

A mulching gas powered mower is the way to go. When you mulch yourgrass some of the nutirients from that grass goes back into the new growing grass. Cycle of life.

You should definitely consider paying an outside service to cut your lawn. You will be feeding the economy, saving yourself from a possible injurious situation, and the time you save from not doing it yourself could be spent with family, friends, or with a good book.

I enjoy mowing my lawn. I do have a ride on (sorry Mike) but I only got it last year. I did it with a push mower for a few years and it would take me 3hrs to do and that didn't include the edging. It ate up too much of my weekend had to get teh ride on.

Now with the ride on I slap on some head phones, hang a soft sided cooler off the back of the seat and off I go.

Guaranteed time to myself every weekend. Throw in the occasional cigar and it's even better.

I also drove a full sized tractors for New York State mowing rifle ranges for 3 summers during college. That was basically the same except substitute weed for the beer.

I have a neighbor who is trying to create a wildflower garden in his sloping back yard. At first it looked like his septic had failed and was replaced. It was all tall weeds all summer So I finally asked what was going on. There were NO wild flowers by the end of the summer. This year I assume he hopes they will grow into something other then a haven for lyme disease deer tics. I have no confidence, but we will see.

Well if you cut tall, wet grass, then yes. But if you can cut the grass into fine pieces and it is dry, then it is very good for your lawn.

We use a ride-on mower for the flat part of the lawn and a push mower for the hill (a 30degree slope). all the grass probably takes up a little less than an acre. We mulch the entire season except for the first cut and the last cuts because of leaves

I have about 4 acres to cut so a riding lawnmower is a necessity. I love to do it though. It's a good way to zone out and not really think about anything or work stuff out in my head if I have alot of on my mind. It usually takes just about all day with the push mowing, weed whacking and driveway blowing included. It's also a great feeling when your done with your yardwork. You don't have to worry about your yard for another week or two and it makes your house look nicer.

Nut Sage - some crappy strain of grass or weed that springs up in midsummer and goes away in early fall. it's a lighter leafed grass or weed but grows twice as fast as the good grass... so a day or two later after you cut you have this nut sage unleveling and discoloring your lawn...

hate it hate it hate it....
