I figured to start a new thread about this upcoming show separate from the regular BSG thread.
Casting news:
Morales Boards Battlestar Prequel
Source: The Hollywood Reporter May 7, 2008
Esai Morales has joined the cast of SCI FI Channel's two-hour "Caprica" pilot, says The Hollywood Reporter.
The project, from Universal Media Studios, is a prequel to the network's "Battlestar Galactica." Morales will play Joseph Adama, the father of William Adama (played in "Galactica" by Edward James Olmos), who one day will take command of the Battlestar Galactica.
Joseph is described as a deeply passionate man with a strong sense of justice -- and someone you wouldn't want as your enemy.
Paula Malcomson was previously cast as a surgeon who works as a double agent.
Stoltz and Toressani Join Battlestar Prequel
Source: The Hollywood Reporter May 12, 2008
Eric Stoltz has signed on to star opposite Esai Morales in SCI FI Channel's two-hour "Caprica" pilot. Alessandra Toressani also has come aboard the NBC Universal Cable Studios-produced show, a prequel to SCI FI's "Battlestar Galactica."
Stoltz will play Daniel Graystone, a wealthy computer engineer who, after an emotionally crippling family tragedy, uses his technological wizardry to forever change the future of Caprica.
Toressani plays Daniel's daughter, Zoe.

Who Was That Cylon In 'Razor' Anyway? (http://www.syfyportal.com/news425091.html)
The words of the Cylon hybrid in last year's "Battlestar Galactica" telemovie "Razor" still echo in the ears of many fans.
"And the fifth, still in the shadow, will claw toward the light, hungering for redemption, that will only come in the howl of terrible suffering. I can see them all. The seven, now six, self-described machines who believe themselves without sin. But in time, it is sin that will consume them."
The article is interesting... and a bit spoilerish... but I found it interesting in regards to Capricia.

Could be interesting if we find out WTF the Cylons were up to during their big absence. Esai Morales was a good edition to Jericho's doomed 2nd season so that's nice to see.
Honestly though, I'm so utterly disappointed in Season 4 thus far, I can't get too excited.
Anyone else predict this will air during the fall and we won't see the second half of BSG season 4 until Spring 09? I hope I'm wrong but I have a feeling they'll drag it out and use this like they did Razor.

Yeah it seems to contradict everything BSG has told us thus far. Not sure what it up with that.

From this article... (http://featuresblogs.chicagotribune.com/entertainment_tv/2008/09/greys-anatomy-1.html)
One more bit of “Battlestar”-related news: There's still no official word on whether “Caprica,” a “Battlestar” prequel, will become a full-fledged series. In response to a query about the show, Mark Stern, Sci Fi’s executive vice president for original programming said the network’s executives were still “trying to figure out the financing.”
“The show is phenomenal, but with the pick-up of ‘Warehouse 13’ [which was announced by Sci Fi recently], we now have to figure out if there’s a way to do another new series next year or not,” Stern said. “Stay tuned."

"Galactica 1950" Gets A Green Light (http://io9.com/5100699/galactica-1950-gets-a-green-light)
In Caprica, Daniel Graystone (Eric Stoltz) creates the first Cylon after his daughter is killed in a train bombing. The daughter has left a avatar of herself in cyberspace, and Graystone is able to download it into a robot body. (The bombing is the work of the daughter's boyfriend, who belongs to a fanatical monotheistic sect.) Meanwhile, Joseph Adams (a lawyer whose real last name is Adama) also loses a daughter in the bombing, but ends up deciding the robot-daughter replacement thing is a bad idea. This sets up a running conflict between the Graystones and the Adam(a)s.
The show could air as soon as early 2010, after BSG's final episodes air next spring, and a BSG TV movie, "The Plan," airs next summer.

Syfy announced that its highly anticipated prequel series Caprica will kick off with a two-hour premiere on Jan. 22 at 9 p.m. ET/PT and will air Fridays at 10 p.m.
The show follows two rival families and their patriarchs—Daniel Graystone (Eric Stoltz) and Joseph Adama (Esai Morales)—as they compete and thrive in the vibrant realm of the 12 Colonies, a society recognizably close to our own.
Caprica also stars Paula Malcomson (Amanda Graystone), Polly Walker (Sister Clarice Willow), Magda Apanowicz (Lacy) and Alessandra Torresani (Zoe Graystone). The series is from Universal Cable Productions and is executive-produced by Ronald D. Moore, David Eick and Jane Espenson. Jeffrey Reiner (Friday Night Lights) directed the pilot.

i'm giving this whole series a miss.
first as it's already been stated, it seems to be contradictory to what we learned about that universe from BSG.
Second, i'm still a little disappointed at how BSG fell flat at then end, and i'm afrid the same will happen with caprica.
I guess i'm just going to have to wait until SGU comes back.

If you watched Battlestar Galactica before this, you can't help trying to fit the pieces in for what happens later.
In particular, my theory is that Zoe seems to me to be the spiritual forebear of the Sixes -- for example, the way she's been manipulating the geek who's been working on her Cylon body is very reminicent of the way that Caprica Six fucked the defense mainframe codes out of Gaius Baltar. And Lacey seems to me to be the forebear of the Eights, who tend to be the asskickers of the Cylons, in a lot of ways.
She doesn't look a lot like Boomer or Athena, of course, but, hey, there's plenty of time to work that out.

So far, the character who's acting the most, well, Cylon-ish has to be Sister Clarice. The way she's zeroing in on Amanda, playing on her grief and isolation, would make Caprica Six proud.
This show has had a very slow buildup, which has frustrated some viewers, but I think things are really starting to pop now. There's only a couple more episodes before this show goes away for a few months -- they're doing the "split season" thing very much like they did with Battlestar Galactica.

i think with last nights realization that a human avatar had to be run through the MCP to get the toaster working,we'll see the 100,000 toasters getting 100,000 avies so its kinda hard to pick who will become "the founders". hopefully we'll get to see boomer again

If I understand the timeline of how it goes on BSG correctly, the First Cylon War should happen in about 10 years. At that point, the Cylons are pretty much all toasters -- the humanoid Cylons are created at some point in the space between the First and Second Cylon Wars.
The Final Five might be out there somewhere, though.

Really liked last night's episode. Got me interested again.
It's starting to move away from the soap opera feeling of the first episodes (like "Dallas" with androids, though "Dallas" would have been a much better show with androids) and pick up a lot more of the space opera feel of BSG.

SyFy's doing the stupid thing they did with other shows (including "Battlestar Galactica") and splitting the season in two. So tonight is the "mid-season finale".
They're doing another marathon of all the episodes so far leading up to it. They're in the middle of the pilot now.

Caprica cancelled and remaining episodes to be aired "at a time to be announced" (http://ausiellofiles.ew.com/2010/10/27/breaking-syfy-cancels-caprica/)
“The remaining first run episodes of Caprica – airing Tuesdays at 10/9c – will be removed from the schedule as of next Tuesday, November 2,” said the network in a statement. “These final five episodes of the season will be re-scheduled to air at a to be announced time in the first quarter of 2011, and will conclude the run of the series.”
“We appreciate all the support that fans have shown for Caprica and are very proud of the producers, cast, writers and the rest of the amazing team that has been committed to this fine series,” said Mark Stern, EVP of original programming at Syfy.
“Unfortunately, despite its obvious quality, Caprica has not been able to build the audience necessary to justify a second season.”
Another prequel is on its way though - Battlestar Galactica: Blood and Chrome (https://www.nbcumv.com/mv/#1288242141889)
Battlestar Galactica: Blood & Chrome takes place in the 10th year of the first Cylon war. As the battle between humans and their creation, a sentient robotic race, rages across the 12 colonial worlds, a brash rookie viper pilot enters the fray. Ensign William Adama, barely in his 20’s and a recent Academy graduate, finds himself assigned to the newest battlestar in the Colonial fleet… the Galactica. The talented but hot-headed risk-taker soon finds himself leading a dangerous top secret mission that, if successful, will turn the tide of the decade long war in favor of the desperate fleet.
“The ‘Galactica’ universe as re-imagined by Ron Moore and David Eick is rich with possibilities and backstory,” said Mark Stern. “We jumped at the chance to revisit the William Adama character and explore this exciting chapter in the BSG narrative which falls between the events of the original series and the prequel, ‘Caprica,’ currently airing on Syfy.”
“While maintaining the themes of politics, social propaganda, and the timeless question: what does it mean to be human? – ‘Blood & Chrome’ will also return us to the authentic, relentless depiction of combat and the agony and ecstasy of human-Cylon war, which was the hallmark of ‘Battlestar Galactica's’ early seasons,” said David Eick.

I'm hoping the delay in the last episodes is to allow them to be re-edited for more closure -- but I think it is a bad sign that SyFy won't say exactly when they'll be back.
I thought we were starting to get a little payoff to some of the things set up earlier. The pace of the show is definitely picking up.
