View Full Version : HBO - Brooklyn Dodgers: The Ghosts Of Flatbush (2007)
This documentary rules. I don't know how I missed it when it aired last summer, but it's On Demand on HBO right now.
Great, great companion piece with 'The Shot Heard 'Round The World' documentary they did years back.
HBO does a great job on these.

I make it a rule to tape everything that is on HBO Sports. I have never been disapointed in an HBO Sports documentary.
The best thing about the documentary is the duality of Walter O'Malley they portray.
To be a little kid in Brooklyn at that time, it had to have felt like you got your guts ripped out when the Dodgers moved, so a lot of these grizzled ex-Dodger fans still hold a grudge and always will.
But O'Malley was 100% right in what he did. What the hell would have been the point of the Brooklyn Dodgers in Queens? It wouldn't have been the same. The city of New York f'd up big time by listening to Moses' plan.

Love, love, love this documentary. It's right up there with the Mickey Mantle one as my favorite HBO baseball docs.
I was REALLY let down by the one they did for the Cubs a couple years ago. It focused way too much on the fans and 2003 as opposed to the team's history.

I HAVE to watch this !!! I've seen so much (and read) on the Brooklyn Dodgers and Don Drysdale! I think he is my all time favorite pitcher.... yes, I know Koufax pitched on this team but Drysdale is near and dear to my heart. Thanks for posting about this!

Definately a great one. HBO does really well with these sports documentaries. if only the sports shows on HBO were near as good

Sad to say, but I don't think they talk about Drysdale a whole lot.
He joined the team in '56 and they moved after '57. Most of the documentary focuses from '47 to '55, culminating with the World Series win against the Yanks.
They talk a little about the last two years, but that whole period mostly focuses on O'Malley and the feud with him and Robert Moses, and the build up to the move to LA.

This was one of the best and anger inducing documentaries I have ever seen. I really recommend this.
