Every year when it starts to get warm out, I buy a delicious Friendly's Wattamelon Roll and eat it all to myself like a fatass over a period of a week or so.

DELICIOUS.

I haven't one of those in years but I used to love those when I was a kid. Just another example of Friendly's awesomeness.

We don't have Friendly's in the Midwest, so I haven't been since September, when I was in Maine for work. Now that I'm at a different job where I don't get to travel anymore, I don't see any Friendly's in my near future.

It's sherbet and the watermelon 'pits' are actually chocolate chips.

I'm heading to Friendly's on my way home.

Damn you Missy.

I actually buy it at Stop and Shop, they sell it in supermarkets for you people who live in those heathen areas without a Friendly's.

It is watermelon sherbet with chocolate chip seeds, with a lemon sherbet "rind".

I think I will go have another piece.

Are there actually Friendly's restaurants still open? I used to go them in Northern VA when I was wee all the time. My favorite to get was the clownface Reeses Pieces ice cream sundae. To this day, if I buy ice cream, I have to buy Reeses Pieces to sprinkle on top.

Looks like they are in every state that touches the Atlantic, plus Ohio.

The one we went to when I was kid was actually located in the mall. I don't think it's still there.

They're still all over New England. I love stopping to get a sundae when I'm out driving at night.

I always begged my parents to get me the Dutch Fudge Roll and they never would. I hate them so much.

Gimme a Friendly's burger & an Orange Roll and I am a happy guy.

One thing I HATE about the orange roll is loving thethe yummy inch-thick vanilla goodness of the "peel", enjoying the wonderful orange yumtastic and then BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMMM..........................c homping down on a hard ass white chocolate chip shaped like a "seed". Hurts my teef. :glurps::glurps::glurps:

UPDATE:

Last night after dinner I ran out to pick up a Wattamelon Roll from Friendly's while the kids were taking their baths. I told them before I left I was picking up a special treat for dessert.

When I returned they were all excited and asked me what I got for the surprise. I told them that I went to the store and bought a watermelon. They were completely bummed by the lame choice of surprise dessert. My 4 year old almost was in tears.

...then I showed them the Wattamelon Roll! Their reactions were priceless. They LOVED it!

Then they looked at me all goofy when I said "Thanks to AngryMissy for the idea". Needless to say, they don't post here.

But thanks Missy for the idea, your heads-up made some kids very happy last night.

 YAY! I'm glad I was a part of bringing the deliciousness of wattamelon roll to a new generation. It is a very nostalgic food for me as I remember it being such a special treat when I was a kid.

We have a Friendly's about a mile from our house, and that's BAD........very BAD.

Growing up I loved their Reese's Pieces Peanut Butter Cup sundae, now I can't go near their ice cream without gaining 20 pounds from one spoonful. It's a sin.

At a barbecue this past weekend I brought up the Wattamelon roll and everyone immediately began salivating, except one chick. She had never even heard of it, let alone tried it.

I felt so bad for her.

The next day at another barbecue I showed up with one and was a hero.

Reading this story I prefer to think you weren't actually invited to these barbecues and that you instead simply wander the streets in search of them to present Wattamelon rolls out of the goodness of your heart.

I think that the wattamelon roll is more sorbet than it is ice cream... but it's fantastic and it's frozen so I'm sure it'll keep in the freeze.

I would've gone the whole summer without thinking about this dessert...what a call! Thanks, Missy!

I cant remember the last time I had Friendlys. I was never really a fan. Around here now we have a Cold Stone and they have Cake Batter Ice Cream. It may be the most delicious thing on the planet. It has ruined me on just about every other ice cream out there.
