View Full Version : A Blistering Question...

I am a little panicked, admittedly.
A few weeks ago i wore the WRONG shoes to the city and ended up walking a whole lot longer than originally planned. I developed a LARGE blister on the bottom of my foot which eventually stopped hurting.
However, the blister broke open and i peeled the skin away (sorry if this is gross!)
I kept a bandage on it for a couple of days because it was achy and I was in rehearsals for a show where I do a lot of dancing. But it started to feel better and I have just been letting it breath.
It now feels pretty much healed, just a tiny bit tender when i am on it for a long time. BUT it is discolored. A much darker color than the rest of my foot... and I am a little worried about this.
Oh, and I don't have insurance so I am reluctant to seek out my doctor just to have him charge me one meeelion dollars to look at my foot.
So I am babbling here.
Anyone ever experience this??

I don't want to keep you from seeing a doctor if it's something really bad, but I've had huge blisters on my feet from running, and after they drain and heal, the skin is a different texture and color for a while. Seems normal to me.
I'd be concerned if it felt warm to the touch.
Disclaimer: I am not a doctor. I'm a jackass.

Like Ritalin said. I'm no doctor.
Every time that I have had blisters worth speaking of they end up looking like you described. I wouldn't worry.
The main problem would be infection, but if you don't have any pain I would assume that you don't have an infection.

I wouldn't worry about it, if you can stay off it for a day or two you'll be fine.
It's probably just from the damage. An area of the skin that has been damaged will look darker after healing, but fade over time. It's the same thing that happens with a scar.

Keep it clean and rest it as much as you can, it'll be OK.
Oh! And if you have a small blister, usually if you slap a plastic band-aid on it, your body can re-absorb the liquid and the blister will disappear....mmmmm! yuck.

i've had blisters on my feet and I've actually popped them to release the liquid..reduces the pressure and then used a band ad and it usually healed itself.
I'm not a doctor and i don't play one on tv.

Although it is hard to resist the urge, it is ill advised to pop blisters. That's how infection starts.

The next time you get a blister DO NOT POP IT YOURSELF. You risk infection.
Also, do not pick at the skin ... you risk infection. (And with no insurance, that would be extra bad.)
I know it's hard to resist.
Again, the next time you get a blister, get some moleskin or mole foam (available at the drugstore in the foot care section; it's pretty cheap, shouldn't cost you more than $2 or $3 for a small packet) and medical tape. Cut a "doughnut" shape out of the moleskin or mole foam with the opening big enough to fit around your blister and tape it down ... the idea is that the moleskin or molefoam will raise the surrounding area enough that you'll have less pain from the blister.
Now your recent blister actually sounds like it's healed and may be developing into a callus. This should be OK, considering you're doing a lot of dancing right now and probably need the toughened footsies anyway.

Also not a doctor, but it sounds like all of the blisters I have had on my feet - and I have had A LOT over the years.
Unless you are in continued (and odd) discomfort and/or the blister looks inflamed or a really unnatural or abnormal color, you should be fine.
Keep it clean and pay attention, but I don't think you need to worry too much (IMO).

Some woman I work with from the deep south knew I had a bad blister on my heel and she told me to try putting some Baking Soda on it. It worked! Dried it up and it seemed to go down quick and went away.
