Like I'm a computer idiot over here:

I cannot figure out how to get the R&F bits from this website onto my iPod. I can download and save them on my hard drive with no problem. I play the audio files through iTunes, and when I try to copy the files onto the iPod, they never sync up. I always get the message: "The song 'Earl's Grandmother' could not be used because the original file could not be found."

Does anyone know what the heck I am doing wrong?

Thanks for any help.

It almost sounds like you're not downloading the files, just streaming them from the R&F library.

Try this: create a new folder off of "My Documents" and name it 'Downloads' or something else you'll remember. Then download the files again but this time make sure to save them to your new folder. Open iTunes and select 'File - Add Folder to Library'. Select the new folder with all your new downloads and click on 'OK'. That should get everything.

I've pulled down quite a few files from the library and never had a problem getting them added to iTunes or stored on either iPod.

Make sure when you download you say "Save to computer". Also since most of the files are in zip archives, make sure you extract the mp3 to a known location. Don't just open it right from the zip. Save it to your computer and then open it in iTunes

buy an mp3 player like the Sansa that you can just drag-n-drop files onto.
