Lenay D is still a child, but I have to give her credit. In an age where radio sucks and is run almost purely by corporations, she still loves the art of doing radio. That in itself deserves respect. Not to mention she actually has done radio unlike most of the people on these podcasts. Way to go LENAY!

While I agree that XM202 might not be an ideal venue for someone her age doing a recurring broadcast, I think she is doing quite a good job given her age and understandable nervousness.

She has definitely put the hard work in to deserve this and does indeed have a love for radio as a medium, which is very refreshing for someone her age.

I think an effort should be made to get her more on-air practice and fit her in somewhere on XM from time to time.

I can definitely understand why she was nervous, overall I think she did a good job. If she can find the right venue for her show she will continue to grow. Maybe stay away from doing voices/other characters for a while. Or at least rehearse the voice a little more.

When you consider her age she has a lot to be proud of with that podcast. I doubt I could have filled the hour as effectively as she did. Practice would further hone her skills and on-air presence just not on 202. I was a bit uncomfortable with some of the more adult commentary regarding infidelity etc...
One other comment some folks do not want to hear but has to be considered by her parents and her is the speech issues has to be addressed.

i have never seen a rule that says all 202 content MUST be adult, and i never heard lenay somehow force her way onto the air, she accepted their decision and was considerably mature about it given the circumstances, and then ron decided to give her the show anyway.

Believe it or not, I think we're close to being on the same page. Ultimately the rule I laid down was not to be an asshole to the 11 year old doing something she worked really hard for, regardless of whether you like her show or feel it's appropriate to broadcast on 202. Is that really so controversial?

edit: I just re-read. I guess we aren't so close. I don't think harsh criticism is warranted for her show on this board at this point. There are places where she will get no hold barred criticism. She can go to those places if she wants it. However -- not here, not now.

Because she is an 11 year old playing to an adult room. When I was a kid I did a lot of different kinds of performing, for both age-appropriate and adult audiences. When you play to an adult audience you are open to adult criticism, and my parents never hid that from me. They used it to teach me the harsh realities of life and that the world isn't always a kind and caring place - but you have to reach for your goals and ignore those small-minded people who try to tear you down.

XM202 is an adult room. Although constructive criticism is best, harsh criticism can also teach a valuable lesson - that ultimately you must do what makes you happy and to the best of your ability, forsaking the ignorance of others.
