Welcome to 2002! I have finally decided to pick up an iPod. I have no idea what to get. I have about 300 (archaic) CDs that just get kicked around my car and I am trying to simplify.

I don't need wifi, email, etc. This will mostly just sit in my car.

Are the sony/zunes any better?

What size device (GB)?

i was very anti-ipod, but finally gave in after all larger capacity players faded away ... the advantage of the ipod, is all the accessories and ipod related gadgets

having said that, the creative players are tiny, cheap and come with FM radio

but, 300 albums would require a 20gb player ... the only options would be the 30gb ZUNE for about $200, 32gb ipod touch for $500 or the 80gb ipod classic for $250

if you intend to put your entire collection on a player and just leave it as is, the 80gb ipod classic would be your best bet

i've heard people complain about ipods/itunes, but i love both, if you're sort of obsessive over your music and proper labeling/organization you will love itunes.

i've had the same ipod for about four years now, i'm holding out for a larger capacity ipod touch. Though i find some of the menu's of the zune to be pretty slick, i dont think you can beat apple's complete package.

i say get one of the new ipod classics, you'll enjoy.

I love the iPod touch.

I so want one of those once they come out with ones with higher capacity.

I got a nice wad of dough from various people for my birthday, and I really had nothing else that I wanted to spend it on. And the 32 gig just came out so I figured it would be at least another six months before a larger one came out. So I got the 32. All of my music fits, along with pictures of my kids, and some videos/podcasts, as long as I manage the videos.

here's my 2 cents. I started way, way, way back in the early 2003 year with a creative muvo. then upgraded to an ipod mini, which I then upgraded for the U2 special edition, which I finally upgraded for an 80 gb classic. I love it.

HOWEVER, and this is in my area (Virginia) our county wide library system has audiobooks that you can download for free, but are NOT compatible with the IPOD, They ARE compatible with the ZUNE. So, if that's an issue for you, you might look into that.

I generally use my ipod for when I teach pilates classes and in the car. (they've gotten hooked on leonard cohen!) I have a book on there that I got on itunes, but I never listen, I keep it as a backup in case i run out of ron and fez on long car trips to Maine.

I've had to service 2 of my ipods and the service was FANTASTIC and fast.

They quietly upgraded from 8 and 16 gig to 16 and 32 earlier this year. But at this point, the new iPhones are going to be announced June 9, so it may possibly have repurcussions for the Touch.
