View Full Version : Dog in Cemetery? (yes or No)

I saw something odd today that I wanted to run by you all. While driving down a busy Central Florida Street today I drove past the Oakridge Cemetery whereupon I saw something I have never seen before. A dog, being walked by a lady who was visiting a loved one's grave. The dog shit on the ground near the grave and it got me thinking: Is it appropriate to bring a dog to a cemetery?
That dog shit on someone's grave. Is that normal? I mean, I'm sure a stray dog has gotten into the Oakridge Cemetery before but a dog on a leash? It say a lot about the owner as well, but I think the whole thing could have been avoided if the dog wasn't there in the first place. ('what the effe?')

What if it's the dead loved one's pet?

Interesting point, Pin.
However; the dog shit on a different grave than the one the owner was grieving over.

Did the owner pick up the poo?

just remove the poo so others don't step or kneel in it... or in Dave's case " eat it "...

nothing wrong with bringing it to the graveyard but there is definitely something wrong with letting it shit on someones grave, even if you clean it up.

I'm sure birds and other wild animals shit on graves ad gravesites all the time.
Something tells me the occupants of each plot don't really care.

The light turned and I was unable to tell. I assume No; however based on the situation.

something tells me that birds and other wild animals dont know what they are shitting on ;) if you stand there and watch your dog shit on someones grave you are an inconsiderate ass, and i have virtually no respect for graves myself, cremate me and throw me in the trash is exactly what my will reads, but still i would not let my dog take a crap on someone elses grave.
nor would i disrespect a church, etc.
i have no personal feelings of respect for the institutions but i recognize that others do.

If we're really griping over poo intention, shit is intentionally thrown on graves as fertilizer. Are the dead really gonna know the difference? If not, fuck 'em. They're feeding the grass just as much as the poo. Circle of life.

I see nothing wrong with it, though it seams like it wouldn't have been too difficult to find a spot where there was no grave. In either case, it needs to be picked up.
On a side note... Has anyone else seen a proliferation of people putting those solar powered lamps on graves? You know... the kind that people use to line their walkways, and don't provide enough light to see your feet. I don't know how I feel about those. I drive by the huge cemetery near me, and there's hundreds of them. It's pretty creepy at night.

yeah, the dog in this story was being walked by a person, who i think its safe to assume realized that it was shitting, i know i have never walked a dog and not known if it stopped to shit.
"Are the dead really going to know the difference?"
it has nothing to do with the dead.

Ground is ground and everything under it turns to dust. So it doesn't matter. Smearing the shit on a headstone would be a bit insulting though.

The dog was fertilizing the grass on his dead mster's gravesite....AND YOU WANT TO DESTROY THAT TEARJERKING MOMENT!!! Monster.
Orrrrrrrrrrrrr...what if it's the grave of the person responsaible for the death of someone close to the person walking the dog? RIGHTEOUS VENGEANCE SHITTING.

How do you stop a dog from shitting? Do you yell NO! in mid-shit, then teaching the dog that shitting outside is wrong, and he should shit shamefully hidden away somewhere inside?
I always pick up my dogs shit. I walk around with a bright blue bag prominently clutched in my hand so people don't give me dirty looks.
The people are dead, do you think they care about dog shit? Then again, the owner most definitely should pick it up.

regardless of whether you intend to clean it up, would you let your dog shit in your neighbors yard? i would not. unless he was a jerk, or really evil or something...
again, it has nothing to do with the dead. people own grave plots and consider them little shrines to their family. i dont really have any respect for the fact that there are dead bodies in the ground, i do respect the fact that other living people have strong feelings about graveyards.
and yes, it is pretty easy to know when your dog is about to shit and move him.

The last time I tried to stop my dog from shitting, he stopped mid shit, with the shit hanging off of his asshole, he then scooted it all over the sidewalk and I had to wash his white fluffy shit smeared ass in the bathtub.
As long as your dog is not having a diarrhea explosion, which is unavoidable wherever he does it, you can pick up the shit with no harm done. My dog shits between the side walk and the street on the grass when I walk him and I pick it up.
If she had the dog on leash and was mourning at a gravesite, she might not have seen him even start to shit... was the dog on leash or running around the graveyard? What if the dog was a guide dog or something? Personally, I wouldn't take a dog to a cemetery, but she might have had a good reason to.

i hear ya. i will just say that in theory, when avoidable, i will not let my dog shit on a grave.
but if it happens its not the end of the world.

Yep, that's him... shit smeared ass + fluffy white dog = disaster.
traditionally, cemeteries were much more of a public park kind of place where people would go stroll and picnic, which is why some of the older cemeteries in in the east have big shady trees with paved walks and benches. only recently have they become the desolate, depressing, dead meat landfills that we have today with flat unadordned markers that the mowers can go right over and no trees to go around.

he's actually doing them a favor.
the dog shit works like fertilizer, so that the grass over that graves becomes far more fabulous than the other graves.
the other graves, in turn, become envious. its a subliminal "keeping up with the steins", really.
its one thing to shit on a grave on purpose, as a fuck you sign, its another if a sense-less dog drops a deuce on a grave; to them, the world is a bathroom.

Pronto will not go at the curb. I wish he would. I see other dogs all the time that go right at the curb in front of their house and am jealous. He will only pee/poop on grass but he switches it up on all different areas during his walk. His pee doesn't make the big brown spot though maybe because he eats good food and drinks lots of water?
