View Full Version : Economic stimilus package money.. what are you spending yours on?
LordJezo

Yay, in order to get this country out of a funk it has been decided to put it more into debt and give us all a hefty sum of money so we can go out and spend it to help make more tax money.
Or something.
Anywho, what are you going to be blowing yours on?
Mine hit my back account at some point yesterday, as soon as I saw it I made a payment on my home loan for the same amount, I'll just act like I never saw it.
Means I am a terrible person, the last thing they wanted was for people to spend it on debt, I guess that means I am a bad republican.

I've recently rediscovered my love for the art form that inspired me to become a guitar player over 20 years ago - Blues music. More specifically, slide guitar. I've decided I'm going to blow my stimulus check on a resonator guitar.
Why it's taken me so long to finally buy one is anybody's guess.

How the hell did you get yours already? I thought the direct deposit ones were over the first two weeks of May, and those were the earliest.
I'm probably only getting a $300 rebate, and that's taking care of my monthly bills.

Still, what a retarded plan. Most people are going to put it in the bank, pay bills or pay off credit cards with it.

I look up to you and anyone who can play guitar. It's my favorite instrument and I wish I could play.
They handed out money here 2 years ago (??)... I don't recall if it was for Albertans only (cause of our billions of dallars surplus w/ oilsands) or if it was for all Canadians. They gave $200 to every citizen. My house collected $1000.00; it was a nice little boost.
They haven't done it since but it was a nice gesture and very much needed at the time.

So true. I don't think this is going to be all that economically stimulating, so in principle I'm against the whole thing. Although I'm not so heavily principled that I'll refuse to accept it. But yeah, it's going against my student loans and I'm pretending I never got it.

In theory paying off credit cards will eventually help stimulate the economy because people may need to use it later, so it's not completely retarded. Just poorly thought out. With that being said, I'll be paying down credit cards and getting my car some repairs.

It is pretty much Bush buying people off. One of the first things he did in office was give everyone $300, and one of the last things he will do is give everyone another $600.

If you want to get even with W in a financially responsible way you can either pay down debt or invest in a mutual fund that only holds foreign-based stocks. With the $ slip-sliding away you should get some nice returns.

If you selected direct deposit, you should have gotten it already.
If you're getting a paper check, the delivery schedule goes by the last two digits of your SSN, higher the number, later the delivery. Delivery goes through 7/11. Check irs.gov for more information.

What about dummies like me who had direct deposit last year, but changed banks? I forgot to leave a forwarding address at Bank of America. I was too busy flipping them off as they counted my money after I closed my account with them.

I got a thing in the mail today from the IRS that said "STIMULUS PAYMENT" in big letters on the front. I ripped right into it expecting to find my check. Instead its a letter telling me that my check in on the way and I should expect it by May 30th. Great, how much more fucking money did they waste on these mailers telling me that my check will be here in another three days?

They will mail you a letter to tell you how much you are getting and what date you can expect it on before they mail or deposit it. The link above may tell you when you can expect to get it, some people I know couldn't get their info to work using this but it may be worth a try if you are really really wanting your "bush bucks".

I got mine ages ago (last 2 numbers "57"). Incidentally, I got a letter from the IRS a few days ago in the mail and I dropped everything I had in my hands and tore it open, expecting the bad "audit" news... it was just to tell me about my stimulus package, how much, when to expect it, etc... and I'd already gotten it. A near heart-attack for nothing.

No, but you . . . you . . . you're thinking of this place all wrong. As if I had the money
back in a safe. The money's not here. Your money's in Joe's
house . . . right next to yours. And in the Kennedy house, and Mrs. Macklin's house, and a hundred others. Why, you're lending them the money to build, and then, they're
going to pay it back to you as best they can. Now what are you going to do? Foreclose on them?

was just thinking that if they send a letter to each of the 300 million people in the country about their checks being mailed out; on top of another 300 million envelopes with actual checks in them, thats like 600 million envelopes as well as postage for 600 mailings. a forever stamp is .41 cents apiece. while im sure the gov has all kinds of markdowns, deals and ways to account for internal costs the amount of money just to get the checks out seems like an asinine amount of money to spend on top of the 600 bucks a head theyre giving out. i know some folks get direct deposit and im over generalizing but it still seems like a complete cash waste when the money could go to more important things. theyre wasting it like its nobody's business just to say hey, your check will get there in maybe 48 hours. i think i can wait a couple days without a letter. it'll come when it comes.
