View Full Version : Have you ever seen your friend on National TV?

I was watching The Discovery Channel this weekend and saw the "Surviving Alaska" episode tied in with Alaska Week. Survivorman, Les Stroud, was the host of the show and there was a segment about surviving an avalanche. The park ranger that was looked to for expertise was my sister's ex's best friend.

I thought it was cool to see a graduate from my HS, a person that I spent a lot of time with, have his time in the spotlight. He did quite well too.

Have you ever seen a friend on national TV?

I'm so sorry. Someday you won't have to call him your "friend".

He wasn't necessarily a friend, but someone I knew since grade school is playing in the CFL and went to the Grey Cup last year.

Girl I knew from college was a runner-up on Survivor and I was on TV, so if you're a friend of mine, then you can say yes.

(It was a VH1 News Segment on Bruce Springsteen, I was the Man on the Street)

A friend of mine was a contestant on Russian Roulette a few years ago, but I think more people saw me walking down the street today than watched that show.

a friend from college is now the manager of the Strokes. I actually helped bank-roll his first 2 albums when he had his own band back in college.

i saw him in a strokes video (not sure which). kinda weird.

now he's rich and i'm a working-class schlub. why, oh why did i lose touch with that guy?!?

does anyone remember Scott O'Grady, the pilot that was shot down and then rescued in the former Yugoslavia. He was the kicker on our high school football team when I was there. Nice enough guy but very average. He was in a class with me but I barely remember him. Anyway, it was beyond surreal when he was saved and was suddenly a hero. I remember when we was on Letterman and a couple of other talk shows.

Not exactly a friend, but a woman who was a very regular customer at the camera shop I managed, was on MTV's Fanatic. She was always coming in to print photos of Bon Jovi, and she was featured on the Bon Jovi Fanatic episode.

the most random time this has ever happened was one night when i was watching a plastic surgery show on tlc & they were interviewing one of my old college friends about his thoughts on his girlfriend's nose. very odd.

i've seen a few people i know on old mtv shows like that stupid one jenny mcarthy was on

& sort of related, but one coach i work with now was on blind date years ago & it's incredibly embarassing. he has no idea that so many of us have seen it thanks to one of his friends putting it up on you tube.

mikey background and the mrs were on "queer eye", but it was the "welcoming party" for their friend that was made over.
mikey even delivered the perfect ronnie "you look like a million bucks" line.

I have a good friend named Lark, he was Candy's brother on Comedy Central's "Strangers With Candy". It was always weird to see him on tv.
Now I hear him on the tube and on radio as he makes fat cash doing voice overs.

in 1990, my unit from Germany (2nd Ad) was sent to desert storm. There is b roll of me marching our platoon away from a meeting we had with Colin powel. It was on the Sunday night 60 minutes. I never saw it but was told about it a thousand times the next day after it aired. I have looked on youtube but no luck.

more of a friend of a friend, but we know each other by name...was on the Apprentice a few years back.

my brother is an ER doctor and was followed around on one of those Life in the ER type shows. that was really cool to watch. i think it was on TLC or one of those type channels.

and my sister asked a question on the Donahue show way back. her question sucked and you could tell she was really nervous. it was great making fun of her about it.

Yes.

My friend Austin was one of the contestants on the 1st season of Project Runway on Bravo.

He's now head designer for Kenneth Poole Bridal, which is wicked cool.

The basketball teams here are play in a nationally televised game once or twice a year and the head coach has been on a lot.

One of my wife's college roommates was on Jeopardy recently (she won about $25,000).

The majority have been guys I grew up with on the news because they got into some shit.

A guy I work with has been on the Sopranos and a few bit parts in mob movies.

My sister works in the television industry so I've seen her on the red carpet a few times.

My cousin used to be a relief pitcher for the San Diego Padres.

My other cousin was on 'On The Lot'

My friend's brother used to be on The Black Donnellys.

When MTV's spring break was on the Jersey Shore a girl from my high school was playing the "prize" in one of their dating games. She was really whoring it up.

A friend from high school was on MTV's Tough Enough, the short-lived reality show that follows people training for a spot in the WWE. He almost won.

My friend's brother is a priest and he just recently saw him in the crowd at Madison Square Garden when the Pope was in town.

Not really my friend, but my ex-stepmother's friend played Albert Einstein on the Alien Nation TV series.

I've also seen some wrestlers I've been friends with appear on WWE, ECW, WCW, and TNA TV from time to time, usually in extra roles (although a couple did have signed contracts with those companies at one time or another).

I went to high school and played baseball for one year with Hines Ward, the wide reciever and superbowl mvp for the Pittsburgh Steelers. He doesn't qualify as a friend since not a word has ever been passed between us but he's the closest I've got to someone being on national t.v..

Boasting and being proud are two different things. I was proud to see a local native make it in the national spotlight. If anybody thought that I started this thread to brag, I apologize as it was not the intent.

Sorry buddy I didn't mean to be insulting to anyone, I was more referring to the feelings I had about my own post

I had a freind from college who was in this WB show. They were forming an all girl band. Gosh, I think it was called Eden's Crush or something. She made it to the finals and decided not to join the band because it was against her Chrisitan values.

My mom was watching TLC one night about an E.R. and this guy sitting next to the cyclist being treated was my cousin. She had no idea my cousin was there because he wasn't the focus of the scene.

My uncle and the guys from his firehouse were interveiwed on the CBS show NFL Today after 9/11.
