On the show last week, they posed the question of what ONE thing you would grab if your home was burning. I've thought about this when I see news reports of fires or other types of disasters. It's usually the sentimental stuff that people want to save. Keeping with what they said on the show... You can grab one physical item.

Mine would be my external hard drive that has all my old photos on it. Gotta love the digital age. A few years ago, it would have been impossible to round up all of the photo albums, negatives, slides, framed photos, etc.

What would you save?

two items and they are kitties.

if animals don't count, then my jewelry box which contains the pieces my mom left me/bought for me in her last years of life. very precious to me.

On the show, they ruled out family and pets. It's just "items". I guess a box full of items might qualify, but they only let Earl take one baseball card. You get more leeway than Earl, though.

One of my guitars. I have two, so choosing might get me killed - but I'd settle on the Martin most likely.

Papabear, you might want to save a dictionary......'Emergancy?' :nono:

I have cool (I mean nerdy) picture frame that holds 22 baseball cards..I have the both starting line-ups incl. DH and closer for the 1986 Red Sox & Mets.. About 15-16 are autographed..
As gay as it sounds, that's what i'm taking..

tough call...
i have all my photos on my external and its located in a conspicous (sp) place so that if needed, i can snatch it on the run. i live in a complex, and last dec i watched the building next to me go up in flames, so i have thought about this.

its my external drive i take, although i have all my basses next to me. (my 12 string was my wedding present).

it would break my heart to watch that thing burn.

I know this has Zero to do w// thread and comes directly from the desk of Col. Obvious but:

1. Buy a cheap USB self powered External Hard Drive

2. Back that Shit Up

3. Put it somewhere not in your house / building

What, like a fireproof safe inside a safe-deposit box?

Good question...

Immediately what came to mind was my Wrinkle Dog Doll from when I was a kid... Because when I was really little my mother made me really paranoid about house fires, making me watch videos about fire safety to the point where my little heart was racing in my bed running through what I'd save in a fire, even though all the videos said not to save ANYthing, but yourself. Back then it was the Wrinkle Dog (named Wrinky).

I'm counting my cell phone as a freebie, since I keep it on the nightstand next to me and could easily pick it up on my way out of the room. I guess I'd save my laptop. Looking around my house though... It's making me really paranoid about fire again!!!!!

and this would be the face my mom makes if she read this post:

My safe.

It has all of my personal items from my father and grandparents as well as my original birth certificate, all tax returns and my portable drive with music, photos and back ups of all of my shows.

I'd miss my movie collection.

My safe, it has all of my valuables in it---my kids savings bonds, jewelry, old pics, about $1000 worth of baseball cards that I'm passing down to my 13 yr old son

I can't say that I own anything that I have a very sentimental attachment to. Everything can be replaced. I would back my car out of the garage, though.

probably the bag o' ammo in my closet. there's no need for firemen to get shot up. That or a sandwich. (it could be hours before they put out the flames...especially if they're being shot.) Catch 22. no pun.

The footprints of our youngest daughter that passed away. When you know something cannot be replaced it makes you crazy. When we moved to another province last year we handled that thing like it was a high explosive that could explode at any given time. Neither my wife nor I wanted to be the fat fingers that dropped it and broke it.

And since my other kids and dog can run out on their own, Thats it.

The antique Stopwatch my grandfather timed me with when I broke the Rutgers 1650 and 1000 record in the same race. It was found engraved and in a mahogny(sp) box he had made on his dresser after he died.

Since my cellphone would already be in my pocket and my truck is not in the house I think they'd be safe...leaving me with my laptop. As my laptop when not in use is in a bag with my external drives I'd have all that to take with me.

I'll say a prayer for your daughter and the rest of your family..
