I need a new computer and I need your help in picking one. My needs are simple: a reliable desktop PC that I can use to get on the Internet, Photoshop, with little need for gaming. I am not looking to spend too much because a couple of 4 year olds will have access to it and I'm a cheap bastard. :help:

I am in the computer buying mode... I am looking for a gaming computer so my needs are way different - but what I found out so far is this...
1: HP has a slimline desktop that gets unreal ratings everywhere I see it listed for around $300 - $500 ... no monitor with this though... but it appears to be the best deal. Because the case is so small there is not much you can add to it after you buy it - but I was guessing after reading your needs it would probably be fine for you.
2: My dad just got a brand new toshiba laptop for $700 from Costco.com that was really a great price. Core 2 - 3 GB Ram - 250 GB 7200 RPM hard drive... 256 Memory Card etc...
Just make sure if you get Vista that you have at least 2 GB of ram - 3 prefered... and if you want any chance at gaming you need at least a 256 memory card... 512 is almost necessary though.

i just got an hp pavilion dv9825nr (laptop) at best buy, for 1080 bucks. its got 320gb hard drive, 4 gb ram, 512 nvidia 8600 video card, all kinds of bells and whistles and so far even with vista im digging it. high def 17" monitor and its even got a dvd and cd burner with something called lightscribe that apparently can burn images and text onto the front of a cd or dvd so you can design your own covers and make them look cool / personalized. havent even begun to mess with lightscribe yet but it sounds neat. its not too expensive and i figure it really only costs 400 if i include the 600 dollar tax refund the gov is mailing in a few weeks. cha-ching... and i help the economy. i dig HP laptops and have had alot of luck with them in the past and this one im thinking will last a good long time if i dont drop it.
