Has anyone had it? How does it compare to the old stuff? Worth going there to try out?

From what I've read, its to compete with Dunkin Donuts and McDonald's coffee.
So it probably sucks.

it isn't bad, it has a little bit less kick, and it isn't as bitter. I did enjoy the bitterness but it still beats dunkin donuts by a long shot.

So now we're expected to pay $4 for a regular no frills cup of coffee? It wasn't bad enough when they turned a simple cup of coffee into an overpriced, pretentious event now even simple coffee is a fucking production. Fuck Starbucks!

a cup of regular coffee is around 1.75 to 2.50 ... the blended, fancy drinks run 5 bucks
the prices are comparable to dunkin donuts ... i think with dunkin donuts, you get a few more ounces at the larger sizes

Thank you. Starbucks gets such a bad rap for being expensive, and it's not.

Yeah, I don't get it. People freak out about the prices, but they're pretty much the same as Dunkin Donuts.

I got one that's good for a free tall cup every Wednesday until May 28th. Haven't tried it yet, though.

You can get a small cup of plain drip coffee for under $2 at Starbucks.

i only drink the lattes and stuff, so i can't answer from personal experience. but, the other day i was in there and heard one of the baristas talking to a customer about it. the customer was saying that, while she kind of liked the pike place, nobody else in her office would drink it. the barista said that the response they have gotten from people has been overwhelmingly negative. so i guess it sucks.

I had some last year. Apparently this year's roast is slightly different. My fiance works for the company. I'll have to get her to bring some home.
I usually go with an Americano. Espresso and hot water. The Tall size is the equivalent to two cups of drip. And it's still only $2.

Starbucks COMPLETELY lost me with their horrible word of mouth, their 10 dollar coffees, their expensive teas, their way too expensive pastry for the quality you get, and their overall burnt flavor to coffees. The whole "hipster" attitude in there made me want to retch too.
I guess they're trying really hard to counteract all this bullshit now. Probably losing market share or something.

Is there any coffee there that costs anything close to $10?

Yes. Or at least there was last time I was in one of those fucking joints like 5 years ago. A fucking double expresso was like $3 for a shot of so-so coffee. If you want one of those fancy cappuccino things I remember them running between 6-8 dollars. That's most of a 10 on a fucking drink.
No thank you.
If things have changed, I wouldn't know because that bullshit kept me out of their fucking establishment.

There are licensed stands that use the Starbucks name and coffee but aren't actually affiliated or employed by the company. Most of them are at supermarkets or rest areas. I think they can pretty much name their own price. I paid over $4 for a small cup of coffee at the Monte Carlo in Vegas.

That's not a coffee. Their coffees, as shown earlier in the thread, are the same prices as Dunkin Donuts. Only Starbucks serves actual coffee, not the shit that DD serves.
And I order one of the most expensive things on the menu every time I go there. It's a Venti Caramel Macciato, and it cost $4.05, not $10.
Also, by "hipster" do you mean "young people", Blowhard?

Gee, sorry that I consider something with coffee in it a coffee product.
And the place was charging WAY more than that for their swill last time I was in there. I guess they got smart, realized no one wanted their high priced shit and changed their whole business model. Smart move.
Dunkin Donuts doesn't taste burnt either, I'll take it anyday over Starbucks.

Dunkin Donuts has lattes and stuff like that now, and they charge as much as Starbucks. Starbucks' coffee has always been a normal price, its just their "specialty" drinks that have been expensive.
And I like DD's regular coffee more than Starbucks, but that's because I don't really like strong coffee.

Oddly, they've started displaying when and where the coffee was roasted. The last 2 Starbucks I went into, the beans were roasted March 28th in York, PA. I took note of it b/c York seemed like an odd place for coffee.
I usually order whatever the "Bold" coffee of the day is by name, just to make sure I don't wind up with "Breakfast Blend" or some other weak ass brew. The Pike's Place is not bad, but I still prefer the Verona, Sumatra, or Narino.

Displaying the roast date started as part of that "retraining" they did a few weeks back. They're also no longer allowed to grind beans for drip ahead of time.
If you want a potent brew I recommend an Americano. The beans are ground per cup and you get at least twice the caffeine, depending on your number of shots. Roughly one shot of espresso=one cup of drip.

not even close ... i get a iced quad (four shots of espresso) almost every day, and it only costs $2.93
there's a website that came up with the most expensive coffee (based on the array of house ingredients) and it came to 12/13 bucks -- but it was an unusual combo

All I know is the Starbucks in Willowbrook Mall had their Large or Vente whatever specialy coffees at like 7 bucks a few years ago when I got disgusted at them.
And the quality wasn't anything to write home about.
The few times I've gone to Starbucks, I've found it horribly overrated.
Dunkin Donuts has good coffee, but the people behind the counter mix in way too much cream and load the thing with sugar, so if I go there, I pretty much have to get it black and add stuff in myself.
Thankfully, we have a pretty good regional chain named Brew-Ha-Ha which gets some fantastic blends, and a lot of different flavors. If you're ever in Philadelphia (I believe there's one in Center City), or Northern DE, I'd recommend it.

Brew-Ha-Ha was the only coffee I would drink for awhile...until I tried Starbucks. Now, to me, Brew-Ha-Ha tastes too watered down. I've become accustom to that stronger, bolder flavor that Starbucks has. I don't add cream or sugar so I need my coffee to be flavor full.
Not to knock Brew-Ha-Ha. I frequented there for a long time and still occasionally go back. They are a great alternative to Starbucks if that's what your looking for.

I think that the Pike Place Roast is terrific, haven't exactly figured out the right ratio of cream to coffee yet. But still a nice taste. To me it did seem strong and I like a strong coffee. I have also concluded that Starbucks adds crack cocaine to there products cause I am addicted to it... I must admit that I have a slight caffeine dependency anyway, but they keep me coming back for their brand like no other has.

Delicious if brewed correctly and consumed within time limits - otherwise it sucks... in 50% of Starbucks it sucks.

I had the new Pike Place Roast last week and found it to be a decent cup of coffee with good flavor. I've for the most part moved away from the fake coffee that Dunkin Donuts makes and usually get my favorite which is the Iced Americano at Starbucks which is very affordable usually about $2.80 for venti and it's got great flavor, though more bitter than the Pike Place Roast.
Pike Place is good as a standard cup of coffee and for that I liked it because it tasted like a really good coffee with a little extra bite to it. It would probably be a good iced coffee also.
