This may be a little complex, so I'll try to bottom line it.
I had a computer that had no problems, but it's about 4 years old. I handed it down to my wife, doing so I pulled the hard drive with the factory installed OS and installed a new hard drive with a fresh copy of XP. Nothing else was changed.
The computer has been having display problems, randomly blinking, screen freezing, windows freezing, etc. I changed monitors and the problem continued, which leads me to believe it's not the monitor but the display card. I also changed drivers; the drivers from dell for this card actually made the problem worse (computer hung).
As a last ditch effort, which was recommended to me by my company's IT guy, I changed the display from 1024x1280 to 800x600. THAT stabilized the display with no problem, but of course, everything is now huge on the display.
So what exactly is the problem? Is it a display card malfunction? I can't seem to find the right drivers to make it "work".
Should I just consider it a lost cause and get a new system?
