Although I am far from this point barring a jeager infused trist and prolonged paternity suit what do you want to name your kids/why did you name your kids their names?

I kind of like Dante as a name. I also thought, when the buddays were coming up with names for Dave's kid, before they knew the sex, that I liked Jameson as a name.

I bet you're one of those hipster parents that waits til their kid is 5, so they can name themselves.

our son is names after his father & both his grandfathers & 1 great-grandfather. A Irish tradition. Our daughter will be names cassidy, just because we both like the name. It's also Irish, but not wierd or too old fashioned

We're naming our son Jackson as a compromise. My husband is a huge fan of Jackie Chan and wanted to name a son after him. I refused to legally name any son of ours Jackie (a) a bit femme in my view, and b) my brother would think we were naming him after Jackie Martling).
I kind of like Dante as a name.
My cousin named his new baby Dante. It was actually one of my choices up to that point.

Isn't this already a thread?
(I just checked ... and it's not. It was an off-tracking of Eli's "Something's in the Oven" thread.)

I was pushing for Anderson. We ended up using Thomas instead. Also Lucas was high on the list.

I've used that as a justification for tying Dan Ayckroyd to Kevin Bacon in one step during "Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon."
People always get pissed.

Exactly, so my answer can be found on that thread.

We found out that we were expecting the first one just before Christmas so if it was a boy (which it was) it would be a Nicholas. For a girl we started with Nicole but quickly starting thinking of other names (my wife was partial to Lucia).
For the second we hadn't really discussed it and when he was born and the nurse said you have a boy, my wife looked at me and said Patrick. Who was I to argue?

Scarlett, Grace, Violet
Sophus, Arasyn, Liam.

Ashlynn Paige for a girl
I like a few boys names: Chase, Brody, Brady, Hunter and I know I'm forgetting one
I think what I'll do though is name my daughter and let my husband name our son.
My daughter is Alexis Stefanie but she was originally going to be Stefanie Alexis. Stefanie was after my best friend (Stefanie Elaine) growing up who was killed my senior year in high school, my 2 other friends and I made a pact that our 1st born daughter would be named in memory of her. The one friend name her daughter Stefanie May, the other Stefanie Renee. When I was pregnant I said I was going to name my daughter Stefanie Alexis and they said don't do it, that their lil girls were snots just like our friend was (LOL) so after much debate I switched the middle and first names and my daughter is Alexis Stefanie. And she is still a snot, but I call her Boogs.

Wow, if our daughter had been a boy we were going to name him either Charles Ignatious or James Ignatious and call him Iggy for short. Don't see many Ignatious's out there.
We named our daughter Molly. We just liked the sound of it, it fit her and it was simple and not over used.

I talk about the book ad nausem but 'Freakonomics' has a wonderful chapter that essentially addresses the question: Does a name even matter? Meaning, are some names better then others for the kids sake? Is Bob good but Dweezil bad? Why do we sweat names so much?

True Story from Book:
It has been well established that we live in an age of obsessive, even competitive, parenting. The typical parent is led to believe that her every move will greatly influence her child's future accomplishments. This belief expresses itself in the first official act a parent commits: giving the baby a name. Many parents seem to think that a child will not prosper unless it is hitched to the right one; names are seen to carry great aesthetic and even predictive powers.
This might explain why, in 1958, a New York City father named Robert Lane decided to call his baby son Winner. The Lanes, who lived in a housing project in Harlem, already had several children, each with a fairly typical name. But this boy—well, Robert Lane apparently had a special feeling about him. Winner Lane: How could he fail with a name like that?
Three years later, the Lanes had another baby boy, their seventh and last child. For reasons that no one can quite pin down today, Robert decided to name this boy Loser. Robert wasn't unhappy about the new baby; he just seemed to get a kick out of the name's bookend effect. First a Winner, now a Loser. But if Winner Lane could hardly be expected to fail, could Loser Lane possibly succeed?

Googlers can find out what happened to Winner and Loser HERE (http://www.slate.com/id/2116449/). But keep it a secret for others, ya nuts
The chapter of this book, 'A Roshanda by any other name' is one of the funniest non-fiction things Ive read in a looooong time.

Recently the NY Times revisited this in the Science Times, courtesy of John Tierney not long ago:

At least nobody's suggesting naming their son "Sue."

Liz and I already selected names for boys and girls. They are unique and strong names, but will not be revealed until they make their entrance. I don't even want to know the kids' sex until they are born.

My eldest daughter is Kristin, I preferred to name her Julia after the Beatles song. It's a bit amazing how often her name gets misspelled(Kristen), trophies, school awards, etc
Youngest daughter is Michele. My Mom had 5 boys and always wanted a girl and would have named her Michele, so she finally got a granddaughter named Michele. Also a name that gets misspelled often(Michelle)

I have two kids, Ashton and Nikalus. I put in my input but the final decision I gave to my wife. She went through the pregnancy and labor and more importantly, it's just a name.

People always get pissed."Maxamillion thanks a million"..and you can do it with Wilford Brimley (the Diabeetus guy) with "End Of the Line"
Always liked Cú Chulainn , Coal or Augustus for a boy..dunno why.
For a girl Maeve or Siobhan are my faves.
