View Full Version : Spring Cleaning - No Room For Sentimentality
I've spent the better part of the day up in my attic going through tons of boxes, many of which were never unpacked when I moved in here 8 years ago. So far I've thrown out 2 garbage pails full of shit; mostly old trophies and souvenirs from vacations past. Some people say "how can you throw out memories?" but if they're packed away in an attic, how memorable can they be?
I've also discovered tons of old pictures that I never put into photo albums. Some are in the envelopes your pics would come in back in the days of film cameras (remember them?) but most are loose, all bent, torn, and faded. I'm trashing a bunch of them too.
It's amazing to me how much shit one person can accumulate, but I love the 'out with the old, in with the new' feeling I get when I dump all my old crap.

I love spring cleaning, hate clutter. I don't have anything I don't use.
You should see how much Cincinnati Criminals NFL gear and memorabilia I've tossed.

I wish I had an attic.
I have "clutter," bt I've never lived anywhere longer than 3 years, so I've got the art of keep it minimalized down to a fine art.

I am doing the same thing today, time to PURGE.
I'm also in the process of bringing the things I saved from my mom's apartment out of storage and to my own basement so I can sort through and discard, sell, give away.
I kept so little ... but there is still so MUCH!
Who the hell wants a box full of Beanie Babies?!

Trust me, the more space you have the more crap you hold on to.
I've got an attic, a basement, a shed, and a garage. It's not necessarily a good thing. There's always some place to 'store' something and thus you never throw anything out.
NO MORE!
I'm becoming a minimalist.

It should be more akin to your current mod quote, and yet weather appropriate.
How about "I have a summer house on Fire Island."

It's a rake shed, isn't it?
There's probably been thousands and thousands of rakes in there. Probably some really messy rakes, too. If you're not careful, those rakes can be pretty painful.
I'll tell you, if you need somebody to do some raking, it's Gvac. He loves to rake.

OK, I came across some AWESOME old pictures in my attic and I need some of you photoshop wizards to help me out in touching them up. They're old and faded.
Here I am at 4 years of age with my father. I caught that fluke but had to hand it over to dad to reel it in. If anyone can clean this pic up I'd greatly appreciate it.

Getting back to the topic of spring cleaning, its tougher when you have kids. By that I mean they don't want to let go of ANYTHING. You have to make sure they're out of the house when you do a culling of toys they no longer play with.
Is that a fluke or a flounder?
I believe it's a fluke, which is in the flounder family. If I remember correctly, the fluke's eyes migrate to one side of the body whereas flounders are born with both eyes on one side of their head.
I could be wrong, and I'm far too lazy to research it right now.

A fluke is a flounder whose eyes have not metamorphosized yet. The other difference is that, when their eyes do metamorphosize, they move to the left side of the body vs. the right side of the body. Flounder with eyes on the right side of their body are called, Winter Flounder. Flounder with eyes on the left side of their body are called Summer Flounder or Fluke.
