Who will win?

At the box office? Probably Hulk...bigger star power.

But I hate that they're redoing the Hulk...I liked Ang Lee's version a lot. Sure, Nick Nolte blew, but the way it was shot was so unique, and Eric Bana owned that movie.

Well if this means anything, when it comes to Marvel Comic Movies they do have start power.

A lot of people will see Hulk because of Edward Norton while others will see Iron Man because of Robert Downey Jr. It will be a tough one to pick between these two, however I give Iron Man the edge.

Sure Iron Man has to compete with Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, but Incredible Hulk has no direct competition. However the fact that the first Hulk movie was garbage, might deter a lot of people who would have originally said "what the hell, I'll go see this."

I guess because Dark Knight is a DC property and pretty much a lock for John Q. Public's Box Office returns, it was not included. Which is really a smart move as neither Iron Man nor Hulk could compete with the super-hyped Dark Knight. Maybe if Marvel has some sense they would have set up an ARG (Alternate Reality Game) to help peak interest in both of their projects, but sadly they did not. And at this stage of the game, it would be too little too late.

Iron Man still gets the edge in the Marvel films because of its release date (2 May 2008) where as Hulk has its release later (13 June 2008). Movies releasing around the two are as follows.

May 2 (Friday)
Iron Man
Made of Honor
Son of Rambow

May 9 (Friday)
Speed Racer
What Happens in Vegas

May 16 (Friday)
The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian

May 22 (Thursday)
Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull

June 13 (Friday)
The Happening
The Incredible Hulk

June 20 (Friday)
Get Smart
The Love Guru
Religulous

June 27 (Friday)
Wall-E
Wanted

And with Dark Knight not being released until 18 July 2008, it will give each of the marvel films a little run.

The only "threat" I see for The Incredible Hulk right now is Get Smart. Where as with Iron Man, I see Speed Racer (only due to the rumored new Dark Knight trailer that might be included with the film). If Iron man can make it past Speed then its got a couple of weeks to do well. Then Indy will kick the shit out of it. Indy will probably dominate the Hulk too. But thats a whole different thread.

GTA 4 comes out right when IM does...I wonder if that might hit all the movies that week?

I think the new Hulk film will do alright, but ultimately worse since all the buzz around it is pretty negative based on the behind the scenes drama and rewrites and the horribly shitty trailer they put out. IM, on the other hand, looks like it might actually be a decent al around movie.

I may be off base, but I'd say Edward Norton and Liv Tyler are much bigger draws than Downey Jr. and Gwyneth at this point.

Bridges has a cult following that's much stronger than Roth's cult following, though.

They seem to be focusing on delivering big fight scenes with the hulkified tim Roth....
but many elements from the new Hulk seem cribbed from the Ang Lee Hulk....

What about Man Man? I'm not sure which one I think will do better. Personally I think the Hulk looks more interesting, and I thought the transporter and unleashed were amusing. If I had to guess I would say Iron Man would come out on top. Just from the trailers it seems more like a traditional popcorn flick, with the kid appeal that drives summer box-office. Not sure why they decided on an early may release date though...

Wow...a new Hulk movie ALREADY?

Sounds like a better cast and I love Edward Norton but it seems a little soon. I hope I'm wrong and they pull it off.

I hope they at least give a believeable reason as to why the Hulk's shorts don't completely rip off and still fit Bruce Banner after he shrinks back.

As far as Iron Man...I don't get why they chose Robert Downey Jr. but I'll see it anyway.

I'm just waiting for a superhero movie that is more than special effects. I know they have to follow the comic book origins but it would be nice to see some sort of surprise plot twist that could be worked in or an award winning screenplay.

Robert Downey Jr is going to be fantastic as Stark. He feels really strongly about the character, and I heard the sequel will be even better because they're going to get into his alcoholism and depression. Sounds like a perfect fit.

I love Edward Norton and will be seeing the Hulk movie, but I'm not excited about it like I am with Iron Man, which has been hyped for 2 years.

And Hellboy 2 looks great.

Iron Man is the best superhero movie I have seen yet.

I have seen almost every superhero movie. From the early Superman to the The whole movie just worked so well. The hype delivered big time. It was fresh, the style was terrific, and it was soundtrack was the best I’ve seen in a movie in a long time.

Robert Downey Jr is the best actor I’ve seen as a superhero. You can tell how much he loved the character and the storyline (probably due to the parallels of his own life). You care more about Tony Stark then Iron Man, and that says a lot. Sure, we all love the kick ass high tech suit (that looked amazing) but the man underneath was what drove the story. Most superhero movies you just want to see the superhero in action, but this you want to get to know the human there. Robert Downey Jr was excellent for the entire movie. The rest of the cast was also perfect.

Another reason I liked it is because while there was a love interest, that’s all it was. Gwyneth Paltrow was great as the love interest and not some sexy chick randomly placed. There’s no “getting the girl”. Almost a depressing but very human feeling. It had a realistic element and more tension between characters that will be developed in the next movie. But even with the realistic parts of the characters, the story, the interactions; the special effects were mind blowingly cool. It’s so good; you’re on the edge of your seat with every throttle boost and rocket.

What else is there to say? Well the humor is also a nice piece. Not too much so it’s corny and not too little that it’s super serious for a Marvel movie. It’s witty and adds a bit of charm to the characters and their dialogue. Some laugh out loud parts that are placed perfectly within the story, it stays serious during the parts it should, and the action is awesome. Other things: best tease for a new character, best ending line in a movie, and best “stay after the credits” part.

When all's said and done, Iron Man is one of the best superhero movies you will ever see. It’s flawless in execution and keeps you wanting more. I can’t wait to see where they go from here with the franchise, and future Marvel movies!

robert downey jr actually blames that film (less than zero) for his drug problems of the past. i have heard andrew mccarthy attribute his spiral to obscurity to this film as well. it was an ok movie, but the book was better. julian's character was never developed enough in the movie to have the same impact as in the novel.

after seeing Iron Man this weekend and seeing the Hulk Trailer before the movie. I have to say that Iron Man might win money wars this summer. Robert Downey Jr did a great job bringing the movie to to life on the screen and the special effects were pitch perfect.

The trailer for the Hulk didn't impress me but I will see the movie because of Edward Norton. I am a huge fan of his and have seen everything he has done. The effects for the hulk look kinda plastic and bad to me. Much like Ang Lee's version did. I wasn't impressed at all, with them.

Spoilers from trailer the added super hulk made me feel like they just added it to bulk up the movie

That is "The Abomination" (Emil Blonsky) which has been around in comics since 1967, so it's not just something they made up for this movie. And I think it's better than Nick Notle's "Absorbing Man" type character from the other movie. The Abomination looks more like a lizard in the comics.

Marvel has a lot on it's plate right now but the priorities are Ironman II and Thor

I think the 2011 slate is more intersting...

That film, now titled "The First Avenger: Captain America," is slated for release in May 2011, to be followed by "The Avengers," based on a team of Marvel heroes that has included Iron Man, Thor and Captain America, in July of that year.

I'm actually starting to get excited about seeing The Hulk this week....
I think the potential of Marvel taking responsibility for it's legacy with their slate of self-finance films(after the debacle that was Fantastic Four I and II....how the people reponsible screwed that pooch so bad I'll never know). I was moderately okay with the Ang Lee Hulk but it is looking more and more like the the Hulk reboot will kick ass(though I wish the CGI was a little more convincing with the way the Hulk actually looks).

Just came back from seeing the new Hulk.

Much better than the first one, the first movie was such dog shit. This had more of an Iron Man feeling which is a good thing.

God damn movies are expensive though, afterwards I take my nephew to Burger King so he can get the toy, then FYE so he can get the game..

Well it’s Fathers Day weekend and there’s nothing better to do with dear ol’ dad then see a superhero movie. A few years ago, it was Batman Begins. This year, it’s the latest 100+ minute build up for the eventual Avengers movie, The Incredible Hulk. I went into this only expecting it to be better then that piece of shit Ang Lee version, and that’s what I got. However, you can take your morning alarm clock set you on fire and it would still compare favorably to Ang Lee’s version. So what about the actual movie itself?

Well… the only way I can describe it as is “good”. It’s not a bad movie but there’s nothing about this that would make me want to see it twice. The actors do their part, the story is fine, the action sequences are well done, and the CGI is enough to make it seem like a big green man in purple pants is actually knocking over a tank. You don’t feel that it’s a waste of time for seeing it but you aren’t going to be talking about this for years.

The one fatal flaw with this movie is that there is no single moment that will make you talk about it for years. It doesn’t have the storyline of Batman or the charm of Iron Man or the overhyped-piece-of-trash-ness that was Spiderman 3. Sure they have the “Hulk Smash” line and the tributes to the old TV shows, but the only part that people are going to be talking about is the last 2 minutes of the film, which is the best and worst part about it.

I absolutely love Tony Stark and Iron Man and was more then thrilled to see him in this movie. However, isn’t that the problem with this movie then? That you are more excited to see another superhero make a cameo? While it turned this film around from a so-so to a good movie overall, it’s still a reminder that there was a better superhero movie that came out a month ago. But I don’t care because all it confirmed is the potential for an epic Avengers movie.

Overall, The Incredible Hulk was good but nothing I care enough to see twice. I don’t feel like I wasted money but then again I have spent $5 on a large fresh squeezed orange juice. If you haven’t seen it yet, you could see it in the theaters and be satisfied; or you could wait 3 months, have it come out on Blu Ray, pop your own bag of popcorn, and save yourself a few bucks.

No need to pile on the Ang Lee Hulk...It really wasn't all bad....and frankly this isn't really better....in fact it takes a lot from the Ang Lee Hulk. If anything I liked this Hulk less....too basic...too boring. Though the Tim Blake Nelson character shows promise.

overall it was a good movie, much better than the ang lee one

fight scene betw hulk and abomination seemed quick and rushed, would have liked to see it be longer than the 5 minutes if that

also liked the little nod to the possibilty of having the leader in upcoming sequel

and other the mention of the super serum i didnt notice any capt america references, unless i missed them
