The buddays talking about their AOL email addresses got me thinking of this. Does anyone discriminate when they see someone's email address?
Anytime I get a message from someone with an AOL email address, I sort of discredit them. And if I see a business with an aol address, I don't think I'd ever use them.
I mean, AOL has sucked balls since the 90s, and its 2008. I just can't take anyone seriously if they've been eating shit voluntarily for 8 years. And if a business would rather use a far inferior product for email, what kind of service will they provide?
Also, if a business doesn't have a website, I usually ignore them, as well. They don't need to sell anything on it, but at least have a page with the basic info of your company.

I agree about the website stuff underdog. I hate the yellow pages and tend to look stuff up on the interwebz instead. It pisses me off in this day and age when I am looking for something from a company and they don't have at least an information website...or they have a site but it is so shitty and hard to navigate i just get pissed off.
That being said, I have a business but don't have a website mostly because I want to do one myself and cant get time to figure it out....I did buy Webpages For Dummies tho, just have to find time to read it.

If you wanna see some discrimination, apply for a job and list your stupid email address on your resume.
Drinkingguy@aol.com
That should do the trick!
NOTE: People actually do this!

It's stupid. It's so easy to get a free email address now. If you're applying for a job, get one with your name on it!
I get the best email addresses from applicants.

You can keep you AOL email address for free, even if you don't subscribe to AOL. Didn't Ron say that's what he does? I know my dad has a email address, which he had for years, so he didn't want to lose the address, but he doesn't use AOL anymore.

I actually keep aol as my email server. Its about the only thing I use it for. Email plus the Instant messanger is enough for me. I'm not trying to impress anyone with the quality or hipness of my email server. Ronnie B is on Aol quite often. He comes up on my buddy list. I have IMed him a couple of times but he does not return my notes. Maybe someday I'll be cool enough to get a response. You know I'd print it out and put it on the wall of my office for everyone to see.

My first email address was on Prodigy. Where they were going to charge you 25 cents per email.

QFT... I've had the same AOL email address since I was 13... why should I switch over? I unsubscribed from AOL ages ago and don't pay a dime for it. Incidentally, I've never given a second thought to someone's email address, or at least what comes after the @... some people come up with some pretty stupid email account names, myself included.
For anything professional I'll use some version of my name @yahoo or hotmail or whatever.
Totally get your point from a professional standpoint, but for private email I just don't get ya.
can i get sina@ronfez.net?

I've noticed the opposite, since I started working at my new (a very large company) I get MUCH faster and more polite responses when I use that email address.
