Being that this is the last year for both of the current Yankee and Shea stadiums, I was just wondering if any of you had special moments in either of those places that you would be willing to share. For me it was the first time I went to Yankee Stadium with my Dad. Walking up the ramp going outside to our section and seeing the field in all of it's glory. The way that the green field looked in the bright sun was amazing. I still get goosebumps when I go today.

I would also like to add one for my Dad (who has since passed). As a kid, he was at the Lou Gehrig farewell speech. He always talked about how a man who was dying could say that he was the "luckiest man on the face of the earth". Still chokes me up thinking about it.

Favorite Yankee Stadium Memory - The Red Sox celebration after Game 7 of the 2004 ALCS on the mound right in the middle of Yankee Stadium

Favore Shea Stadium Memory - Tom Glavine's 1st inning in the final game of last season versus the Florida Marlins.

First game I ever went to at Shea I saw Lee Mazilli hit a home run. And he looked so handsome doing it. Much more handsome than Joe Pepitone ever did.

My best Yankee Stadium memory was watching some drunk dude fall down the stairs in the upper deck. It was amazing how far he rolled.

4 great Yankee Stadium memories come to mind for me. 1) Going to my first game with my dad as a kid, thats just always a special moment. 2) In 1994 or so I went to the stadium with my dad to see the Yanks v. the California Angels. We got there early and went out to Monument Park to take the tour. As we're walking we pass the visitors bullpen and my dad sees Joe Maddon (current Tampa Bay skipper) warming up some pitchers. He yells to Joe to get his attention and Joe turns around and immediately recognizes my dad from their minor league playing days. He took me on the field during their BP and gave me a ball. It was cool for both my father and me. 3) The Yanks first home playoff game in 1995, getting to see Donnie Baseball finally reach the postseason was awesome, plus it was cool to watch the amazing young talent on the Mariners. 4) Last season being in the bleachers for A-Rod's 500th HR. I don't know if I've ever cheered louder at a baseball game then when I saw that ball leave his bat.

Same here. I was 4 or 5 years old and even though my dad is a die-hard Mets fan, he took me to a Yankee game. I can still vividly recall seeing the field for the first time. It was so green and majestic, and I couldn't believe I was actually going to see these gods play right in front of me, in person!

To this day, I still get a sense of awe when I walk through the tunnel and see the diamond and freshly mowed grass of a baseball field.

Not so much at Shea, but plenty at yank stadium.

1) My first AL East game in which the Dave Stieb took out the spanks in fine fashion. My first game was actallly in Philly's awful vet and I hated it then.

2) Seeing Pink Floyd (Division Bell Tour)

3) Multiple Rolling Stones concerts (2)

4) Seeing a yank fan die in the upper deck of a heart attack with a beer and hot dog in his hands. Not that I enjoyed it, but it was certainly surreal.

5) Multiple games with my Dad and friends whenever he comes to visit.

6) Getting to Giambi at a game only last year with constant steroid taunts and rips on his inability to beat the yankees so you have to join them. Along with a ton of rips on his brother too.

7) Seeing what amounted to the strangest fight in my life in the balcony section where about 10 guys in black coats and blue yankee hats beat the shit out of their own yankee fans with at least two people coming close to going over the edge. I was just waiting for weapons to come out, but thankfully nothing did. The crack staff at the stadium got there within 20 minutes FLAT!!!!

8) Drinking beers with my Dad in brown bags outside of the multiple Stan shops/bars under the tracks in my late teens. Of course this meant mom didn't go to the games.

I remember going to see the Jets play at Shea. The bathrooms were so crowded people were peeing in the sinks. Some guy was passed out on the floor in a puddle of urine. Can't imagine how that guy felt when he came to.

Good times!

My uncles company had a luxury box or whatever the things called at Yankee Stadium years back; so on old-timers day we got escorted to a hotel looking room with the bazillion dollar spread and you walk out to your private section of seats, yes Mom that was Howard Cosell in the elevator, and you can grab foul balls as they come up the net, sorry kid Mr. DiMaggio doesnt sign, and this after your personal parking spot about 100 feet from the stadium, hey that Is Reggie Jackson...

Spoiled much?

Shea?

Saw The Who on their first 'Farewell Tour' there, and The Police Synchronicity Tour, and a couple of games.

Shea: Game 7 2006 NLCS. Even though they lost, the atmosphere was electric. It was mine and Piuki's 4th anniversary, we were with a couple of our good friends in primo field level seats behind homeplate (a couple of rows back from Glenn Close), and a few more close friends elsewhere in the stadium. It was also the day BabyBandit was conceived although nearly 20 hours earlier and 2 hrs away from Queens.

Yankee: 1996 vs Toronto. My goodest bestest and I went down with a group of coworkers that we worked with on the Delaware River summers during college. Seats in the second level behind homeplate. They never carded my 18 yr old ass and we got shitfaced, and so did the broad behind us. Her "other" was a little embarrassed but she joined us in drunkenly yelling and screaming at the game. Good times, good times.

Good thread idea, tupper. I'll come back here with some good stuff when I'm not too lazy to type it... but just for now, I'll start off by saying that I've had painful, explosive diarrhea in the bleacher bathrooms at Yankee Stadium, and lived to tell about it.

My dad was a Jets season ticket holder from the beginning until their first year in Giants stadium. When I was 9 years old he figured I was old enough to bring to the games at Shea with him. I remember freezing my balls off and seeing quite a few drunken brawls.

Maybe that's why I hate going to football games to this day.

Shea Stadium.
Mets vs Cardinals in 2000 .... the night they won the NLCS.
I have never felt an entire stadium shake under my feet with the weight of thousands of fans jumping up and down with glee.
I had Mr Met painted on my cheek and all of my gear on.
What a phenomenal night that was!

i took an old high school sweetheart to a Yankee Game had to be back in 81', ah Loreitha...

anyway we were about 10th row behind the Yankee dugout. When Rick Cerone got into the batters circle this guy in the 5th row began cursing Rick out at the top of his lungs. calling Rick every name in the book. I thought it was horrible, Rick had to stand there and take it.

then Dave Winfield comes out, he thought he was so badass, and I guess he was. he's bopping his head, checking out the ladies in the stands with that big wide grin of his.

it was a cool date

Shea Memories:

1. Sitting behind home plate with my Mom for Willie Mays Retirement Night in 1974.
2. Watching Joe Namath lead a comeback against the 49ers from the Mezzanine.
3. Having a foul ball drop out of my hands and roll right into the hands of Maureen McGovern, who had just sung the National Anthem about 10 min. before. That bitch.

Yankee Stadium Memories:

Meeting Phil Rizzuto and Bill White at a pregame function. Two of the nicest people I ever met. (and I met Mr. Rogers so I know from nice people).

Holy Shit, I can't believe I forgot about this one: Game 1 of the 1996 World Series, though Pettitte got rocked and Andruw Jones went deep twice, it was still incredible to be at a World Series Game. So in total that makes 5 incredible Yankee Stadium memories for me, and for all those I consider myself very lucky.

First of all...I think you should acknowledge that the "good friends" that shared their "primo seats" with us were none other than the fabulous Mr & Mrs 196! Give credit where credit is due. We never could have scored those tickets!!

Second...I'd like to give my favorite memory of Shea. While the one mentioned above was pretty awesome, when I was about 14, my dad took my sister and I to a game. It may have been my first, I am not sure. But, either way, it was Banner Day at Shea. We used an old white sheet and a can of spray paint. The banner itself was lame...but we got to march our sad little banner all along the perimeter of the field. We walked a few feet behind home plate, down the first base side, and all along the outfield wall. I can't remember exactly how we entered or exited the field, except that it was through one of the tunnels. We thought we'd get to see the clubhouse, but sadly, we didn't. It was still pretty rad, though.

1. Shea Stadium, Game 7, 1986 World Series. Last Section (47?) of the Upper Deck in Right Field.
2. Todd Pratt Homer wins Division Series vs. Diamondbacks, 1999.
3. Mets clinch Division vs. Cubs, 1986.
4. Mets sweep Yanks in despite being a piece of shite team, 2004.
5. The day King Kong Bundy threw out the first pitch. He was a spokeman for IBM at the time, and they were the sponsor of the giveaway that day. It was surreal.

Gosh...many more. These are what I come up with off the top of my head.

You guys should be happy shea is coming down. The only memories I have of it are Braves teams coming in and RAPING the mets. The best memory of shea, to me still, is when Brian Jordon hit that GW homer of Benitez. As opposed to the other 977 GW HR's that benitez let up

Yea that game ruled. Those seats woulda been PERFECT to sit in to see Beltran decide not to swing at strike 3 RIGHT DOWN THE MIDDLE

Honestly, here is my best memory of Shea, Remember this is coming from someone who HATES the mets and yanks, is a Sox fan, and has rooted for the Braves in the NL my whole life to piss all you jackass fans off.

I got tickets from someone to a Mets Braves game for my birthday, I think it was either 17th or 18th. It happened to also be fireworks night at Shea (which ruled because all the fans stayed til the end of the game despite the Mets losing 16-0). So after the Mets get thouroughly embarrased in their own stadium, they start fireworks night.
So during the fireworks, the genius that I am failing to realize the group of 10 Japanese people right in front of me, lean to a friend and say, apparently loud enough, So this is what it sounded like in Hiroshima, huh? We were like not even a miinute into fireworks and I disgusted them so much they all gave me death stares and left early, while me, my friends, and a few random NY drunks around us just cracked the fuck up. That was the best game at Shea ever

That pitch was not right down the middle...

it curved up the third baseline, in front of the visiting dugout, through the on-deck circle, over the middle of the plate into Molina's mitt.

Another thing about this curveball. Granted it would have been nice not going down watching the third strike, but he wasn't going to get a good swing on that pitch anyway. So if you think its a ball you can't force it and pop it up or squib it down the third base line

No ass, thats not how it works. Cause a squib down the line is still the same as what happened. IT WAS A CURVEBALL. Once your fooled, shit just stick your bat out. TAKE A FUCKIN CHANCE THAT YOU GET LUCKY AND FOUL IT OFF OR SOMETHING. Dont just stand there and say fuck it and let it just go by ending up DEAD CENTER

Stop it sucka. If you swing and it stay up you look like an ass. Not every player has the super red wiffle ball bat the Big Pappi carries where everything magically goes over the wall in the 9th. Some need the right pitch. That series was lost when the relics of a pitching staff fell apart

I understand, just like Buckner wasnt the main reason the sox lost in 86, And Bartman wasnt the reason the cubs lost. Nobody cares about that.

EVERYONE saw a fastball coming there. With the actual difference in time between a fastball and curveball, he had to recognize it. It wasnt like it was a borderline strike, it was right there. He has to take a hack at the with 2 strikes and the game on the line. If he misses, so be it, but its better then standin there with your dick in your hand. Thats why its funny

I thought that at first too, but he was just plain fooled. There is nothing you can do about that. It broke like 90 degrees. Sure take a chance, but don't take a stupid chance. He thought it was a ball. You don't swing at balls

I don't know. If Beltran needs the right pitch, he'd better head back to the cages. This is the guy who used to take private bp with tennis balls with colored numbers markered on them to test his awareness. He should be able to hit anything.

Oh agreed. I am not saying he needs a perfect pitch. I am just saying swinging at a junk pitch or watching it, the Mets were still losing. The pitcher made a perfect pitch and the minute it left his hand that game was over. I stared at my tv for hours, wishing Beltran harm.

a stadium in Jersey City (http://www.jerseycityonline.com/roosevelt_stadium.htm)

good article

Of all of the events held at Roosevelt Stadium, the most historic was undoubtedly the debut of Jackie Robinson of the Brooklyn Dodgers on April 18, 1946.

Sports fans recall other noteworthy events at the Roosevelt Stadium~ In 1940,Max Baer beat "Two Ton"Tony Galento in a heavyweight bout Mickey Vernon of Jersey City played for the Giants and Marcel Cerdan of France defeated middleweight Tony Zale in 1950,Sugar Ray Robinson defended his welterweight title; in 1951,Jersey Joe Walcott beat heavyweight champion Ezzard Charles. Many remember when Willie Mays of the New York Giants hit the only ball out of the stadium to beat the Dodgers 1-0 in 1956.

I was leaving it up to Chip to respond to my post and take credit for it but, thanks for pointing it out sweetie. However we both failed to mention that before we even met and began our beautiful lives together, that we had taken the same bus trip with our dads from Port Jervis to Shea Stadium on MetLife towel day. If that isn't true love...
