View Full Version : Are there any GameCube games worth picking up for the Wii?
I never had a GameCube, but I did read that the Wii is backwards compatible and I did pick up a couple GameCube controllers mostly for the Virtual Console games on the Wii.
I was browsing some of the titles for the Cube, and it doesn't look like I missed a whole lot.
Any recommendations, or are they pretty much not worth it?
I wouldn't pick up games like Super Smash Bros. Melee and Mario Kart Double Dash since there's a newer Smash Bros and Mario Kart games for the Wii.
Kinda on topic, but get the Resident Evil 4 remake for the Wii. Best game ever. But probably not worth it if you played it on PS2.
Even though Metroid Prime 3 is on the Wii I'd still recommend the first two. Even though there is a Wii Zelda I'd also recommend The Wind Waker. It is quite different from Twilight Princess.
Other than that, ETERNAL DARKNESS, and don't you forget it. And Alien Hominid is great you can find it. GREAT 2D side-scroller throwback.

Anybody play Pikmin? This game looked so interesting to me when it came out but I stopped buying consoles when I went to college so I missed out on the Gamecube. Now that the Wii has drawn me back in, the curiousity is back. Is this came as fun as it seemed?

Wasn't there a great Star Wars Rogue Squadron game for the Gamecube.
That may be great for the Wii.

All for the Gamecube?
I remembered a Rogue Squadron game (or two) for the N64, and one for Gamecube, but couldn't remember how many there were.

Oh, and the other question I had was do you need a Gamecube controller or can you use the Classic Controller to play Gamecube Games?

Not sure but you could pick up a cube controller used pretty cheaply

I just did a little research and you can't use the classic controller or the Wii's internal memory to save progress so I'd have to grab a gamecube controller and a memory card. Time to troll the Ebays.
Ohh also pick up "Twin Snakes" it's Metal Gear Solid remade and it's very good

Game Cube rules. Lots of great games. Another good one, and I'm not at home at the moment so I can't remember what it's called exactly, but it's one disc that you can get at gamestop for like fifteen bucks with every single Mega Man game ever, it's like a collectors edition but it isn't rare. Great buy.

Along the same lines there is the Sonic Mega Collection for the Gamecube, although that was also on PS2 and XBox. It has Sonic 1, 2, 3, Sonic and Knuckles, Sonic Spinball, Sonic 3D Blast, and you can unlock Sonic 2 and Knuckles and Sonic 3 and Knuckles and a few other non-Sonic Sega games.
A game that was not available anywhere else is Sonic Gems Collection. That includes Sonic CD, Sonic R, Sonic the Fighters and a bunch of Game Gear Sonic Games. It also has both Vectorman games.
Think that was Megaman: Anniversary Collection

Have you tried Condemned 1/2 Moe. Part 2 disturbed me on such a level I had to stop playing it for at least a week

I read some of the reviews. It sounds like they added almost nothing new, and you're just as well off to play your old Gamecube or DS versions rather than dropping $50 for a game that is more of the same.
Speaking of which, my daughter has been playing the Gamecube Animal Crossing on our Wii lately. I haven't played in years. She showed me my old house today, and it's crawling with bugs.

Def Jam Vendetta is one of the best wrestling games out there.
I picked up one of these from Gamestop to play Cube games on the Wii, and it works pretty good:

#1 on that list has to be Metroid Prime. 2 is Wind Waker. 3 is Resident Evil. Then Rogue Squadron and then the Splinter Cell games.

If you like RPGs, you should check out Tales of Symphonia. It's one of the best Gamecube games ever, IMHO.
Got my first batch of games today. Luigi's Mansion is a cute little game. It's not too hard except for some of the rooms which are kind of puzzling, and it's kind of a weird format for a Mario game, but all in all, not too bad.
I'll probably play it through for a little bit. Still need to check out Star Fox and Harvest Moon.
I really liked the SNES Harvest Moon back in the day, so I'm hoping this one can match up.

Also, if you are into RPG's Baten Kaitos is really good niche title. There's also Viewtiful Joe, if you like action/adventure platformers. Also, Beyond Good & Evil is a must get.
Also on the Wii, get Okami. One of the best looking games I've seen (next to Shadow of the Colossus). Okami is very Zelda-esque.

[edit]: Oops. Sorry for the double post.
If you can find a copy of it try Alien Hominid. It's an old-school 2D platformer with incredible artwork and great humor.
