It's coming out June 12th. I just preordered at Gamestop and it came with a MGS DVD that is basically a recap of the series so far. And nestled in that DVD case is a code that will get you into the Metal Gear Online Beta, which goes active April 21st. The beta will stay active until May 5th.

I can't wait, the MGS online beta should be a nice little preview of the gameplay.

I will buy this and beat it in a weekend. Then again, and again. The last two were pretty good. Some parts were a little quirky (read: japanese) why did I have to eat snakes every 10 minutes, but I never had to drink water or take a piss?

I have high hopes.

I am new to Metal Gear- I bought the three pack they released a couple of weeks ago- started by playing MGS2, but a lot of it didn't make sense to me. I muscled through to the fight with Solidus at the end, but there is so much dialogue I didn't know the history to that I decided to go back and play MGS first, then I'll re-play MGS2. I figure replaying 2 then playing through 3 should get me almost to the release date.

I have not pulled the trigger on a next gen console, but with the demise of HDDVD, a new MGS coming and God of War 3 in development, it looks like I'm gonna be dropping a $400 nut on a PS3.

I'm inconsolable, though, that I will not be able to "finish the fight." I may have to rent a 360 for a weekend just to wrap up the Halo series.

I'm sorry to say that playing MGS1 does little to help you understand what the hell is going on in MGS2. But don't worry, MGS3 more than makes up for it.

Be advised that only sites who abided by Konami's rules were allowed to do reviews. They were not allowed to mention the 45 minutes it takes to install the game, the 90 minutes of ut scenes in the game, and a third thing I can't remember right now.

Yeah, EGM made a big deal about it, too. They were the first to get the game but because Konami wouldn't let them do a real review, they just told everyone that that is why there is no review in the magazine.

I was blanking who did the round table instead of the review. They ssaid it was a good game, but the main problems with the game were the things Konami were saying they couldn't talk about.

You could see this coming, though. What was there, something like 25 plus minutes in MSG3?

The game play in the entire series has always been intermittent with frequent cut scenes. Personally, the story development that happens in these scenes is part of the overall appeal to the series- they give the series a very different feel from american-developed games.

The cut-scenes aren't the problem. It's that goddamn install that will drive me insane when I get it.

It's only 8 minutes.

If I'm sure of nothing else I'm sure of this: this is the best looking next gen console game thus far and it isn't even close.

I WANT TO PLAY IT SO BAD.

But my television is still broken. I haven't gotten to play GTA4 on a nice television yet and I'm not going to start with MGS4 until I get it fixed. God damned Samsung.

Now I know where the 45 minutes install thing came from and why Konami didn't want it mentioned. There's an 8 minute install when you start, and an additional 3 minute install before each act. Not horrible, but annoying.

yeah, it's 8 minutes. You watch snake smoke, it's kind of funny.

The cut scenes are typical MGS, too much japanese drama that seems completely unnecessary. It's unavoidable with this series

The play control and feel is great. Best by far. The 3rd person view is a welcome change from the old top scrolling view, if you didn't (re)play MGS subsistence, the difference is night and day.

I feel like I am missing a lot of stuff, so I will prob replay

This game was not the best game I have ever played. i can't say that, especially when I was sitting there watching cut scenes more than half the time. However, I have never had this much fun experiencing a game. The gameplay itself is perfectly refined. The weapon selection is massive. You can play this game anyway you like. The combat is easier and much more intuitive. I finished it already, played all night last night and all day today. I couldn't stop it was so good.

And the story is absolutely perfect, closes every hole, ends every plot line, just amazing. The graphics can easily be mistaken for CG at times. Act 4 is so perfect. I don't want to spoil it, but it hit the perfect notes. Psycho Mantis makes a great little hilarious cameo. This was just a perfect way to end if not the series, this part of it. There's closure for everyone. A couple of great swerves. I can't recommend this game enough. I hope it comes to 360 so you other guys can enjoy this. How ever long you'd have to wait it would be worth it.

I'll be picking it up tomorrow. I really shouldn't get myself wrapped up in another game right now, but I just can't resist.

Yeah. It makes an appearance in game, theres a joke about it, when you shake it Snakes Octocamo changes back to normal, and it is used in a boss fight.

Just finished. Anyone playing online? Is it worth it?

Chimee

I'm playing through the game slower than any other game I've played before. I don't want to ruin this one for myself like I did with GTA4. Right now I'm at the beginning of Act 4 and I love everything about the game. The gameplay changes really help me enjoy this one more than the other ones because now I don't feel like I fucked up if I raise an alarm, I just shoot everyone and go about my merry way.

I'm hesitant to try the Online because I feel I'd just get massacred by the psychopaths that live for this game. I'm not very good at the combat and probably the only reason I'm doing so well in the story and enjoying it as much as I am is because I'm playing it on the easiest difficulty level. I don't even care about challenging myself in this one, I just want to experience it and have fun.

Why am I getting so defensive when no one even said anything?

I just finished it and I believe it was truly a work of art. Everything was explained brilliantly in the game and the graphics and story were excellent. I would compare it to an award winning movie, it was that damn good.

Damn - I cant quit playing Elder Scrolls 4 long enough to play GTA 4 that is waiting on my desk. Metal Gear has been one of my favorites since the first one offered on the PS2 or was it PS1? I cant remember - somebody come over here and break my Elder Scrolls 4 disc so I can continue with life!

If it is a short game I will probably mix it in before GTA4 now that I think about it.

If you watch all the cut scenes and have a few retries, it's about 20 hours. You can beat it in about 6 if you know what you are doing and you skip all the cut scenes

GTA4 is a good 40 or 50 hours, I was glad to finally turn it off

This is the best single player game I've ever played. It's such a nice change from GTA4, which just keeps dragging on and on.

The cut scenes can be a bit long, but they really do draw you in to the game. Raiden vs the geckos was just insane. It feels more like I'm controlling the main character in a movie than playing a video game.

I'll think I'll give the online game a shot Wednesday night, even though I haven't finished the story yet. If anyone wants to join in, post here. I'll be on around 9 MST.

I'll be on tonight. The online game has been fun so far, even though I get slaughtered. It's more team orientated and tactical then COD4. You have to save each other from CQC encounters, and drag each other to safety if one gets knocked out.

I am not sure how invites work, being that you have to make a game id, a konami id, and a character name; but my character is Benkei, and my game id is thunder_fist.

Im alittle late here, but this game was fucking fantastic. I would have rather everyone die in the end instead of turn into some feel good Anime. But it was still the greatest game I think i ever played.
