program to prepare a newsletter

i have to help do a 2 page monthly email newsletter

i laid one out quickly on microsoft 'digital image standard 2006'
this saves it as a png file
when i convert it to jpg the words get compressed or something and it looks sloppy

what is a good program to use for a newsletter that can be emailed in word or jpg
that will look good both on the screen and if printed out...4-color with pictures and words

nothing fancy and should be easy for a non-graphic guy to use and pc (not mac)

I use a mac but am used to receiving files from PC customers. The standards I see used for simple files are Word and Microsoft Publisher. Both are not for professional print but are fine for something you're describing. I'd lay the file out in one of these programs then export it as a PDF file. Most people can open a pdf and the text and graphics stay sharp.
