Hey bawdys, I have been using the Xamp software (both old and then new version) to keep XM online running on my computer so that I can capture Ron and Fez on a piece of software that records the audio to my hard drive. In the last few days, Xamp has conked out on me, saying it can't connect to the server. I'm not the only one--message boards show that others are having the same problem, and it looks like Xamp, which has not been updated in some time, is no longer being supported. Furthermore, it appears that some of the critical elements that help it run are no longer in place. I could be wrong, but that's sure how it looks at this point.
I've tried downloading a couple of other programs, like XM Tuner from yahoo widgets and another one from somewhere else, but they either don't install or don't work.
Can anyone recommend a piece of reliable software that can be downloaded (preferably free, but I AM willing to pay if it's good stuff) to keep XM running on my computer so that I can record Ron and Fez to my hard drive? Hope so--I'm experiencing serious Ron and Fez withdrawal symptoms...help me stop my jonesing and nod off again with a "Panic in Needle Park" strength R & F "fix."
Thanks--

I'm assuming he pays for a subscription, but is looking for another program so he can listen online. XM Radio Online sucks balls sometimes.

Xamp requires an active subscription to work.
On my cellphone, I use music dock - www.musicdock.com - which is web based but never times out on me.

I never have problems with the XM widget. I use it daily.

Yeah, Yahoo's XM widget is a solid application. I've been using it for years now. Only drawback is there's no way to automatically shut it down once you're done recording but that's minor.

Here's one for Vista but I can't vouch for it. I'm still on XP:

You are jumping the gun on this one Doc. I have purchased 5 units and pay for 5 subscriptions (for family), but I use XAmp to listen online at work - through the XM-online feed that I get as part of the subscriptions.
Using XAmp is similar to using the XMRadio website, but it doesn't time-out on you and there are some cool additional options. It uses the normal XM login info to do the job; it is just a better, more flexible interface.
I am in the same boat - I haven't been able to use XAmp most of the week and it is a real pain in the butt. Any info on other options would be greatly appreciated.

While you're at it, I'd love to have an app that will record the show on my Mac so I can listen to it later.
(By the way, I'm a paying customer, Doc, so get that pointy thing AWAY from my gums)

I don't have a MAC so I can't vouch for this app, but I found a link on a messageboard HERE (http://www.siriusmac.com/forum/index.php?topic=2.0).
It is called XMac and was in Beta last I saw. There are a couple of version links on that page. Let us know how it works - good luck!
EDIT: Crap, I just re-read your post and you want to record. Sorry, I think I only found a player. I'll keep my eyes out though...

I apologize for misreading the intent of the original post. I got a little high and mighty and was rightfully brought down a peg by my colleagues here. Thanks guys I deserved it.
Now make sure you floss a little more often:thumbup:

I use the gadget for Vista on my laptop. Its awesome. They just updated it so now you can see the song and artist that is playing on each channel on the main channel list. It is better then XMonline because it doesn't time out.
I stream XM thru my computer at work as my main music source and it used to piss me off when it timed out after a while.

Thanks, Radioguy, I installed xstream XM and its working for me. Yahoo widget and one other app I tried from the internet didn't, but xstream is up and running.
I turned on Total Recorder, and everything looks fine, the xstream signal is being recorded. Of course, why wouldn't it be? Total Recorder is a very simple "out of the soundcard" recording app.
Thanks very much to everyone who made suggestions--there's some interesting stuff that was mentioned that I'm also going to check out. Now that I have xstream working, I'm looking for a better recorder that I can use to easily generate mp3s and load them on to an mp3 player. I don't have an mp3 player at the moment, so if you can give recommendations on both, that would be almost too good to be true.
The reason I'm looking for a Total Recorder alternative is that the version I have (5.2 standard edition) only records .wav files, and will not record in the mp3 format. That's been satisfactory for the past few years for recording Ron and Fez to the hard drive and then playing them back through my computer, broadcasting the signal through Sennheiser wireless headphones so I can listen to them privately all through the house.
What I want now, though, is to be able to take Ron and Fez shows I've recorded online, and get the recordings on an mp3 player as easily as possible.
Any suggestions on a recording app to make the mp3s and transfer them to a device? And for what kind of mp3 device to use?
Thanks,
Fugitive
Paying for the premium version of Total recorder is one of the best investments that I have made.
If you want to work a little harder and save the money, I think that Audacity might do what you want.

BuildAGadget's XM Players are definitely the way to go. The Vista one is the most feature rich, but they now released one for XP (Google Sidebar) that is really good. They are free too. http://www.buildagadget.com

Anyone else having problems with Total Recorder working on Vista machines? I can't click the dot to DL the kernel driver that I need when i'm installing the new 7.0 version. Now i'm awaiting support from TR to get back to me.
