It doesn't register over 50% of the time. The wiimote goes in this way <--->, even though it supposed to face forward. So if you turn the wheel to the left (I think left), the signal from the remote just points towards you, rendering the signal useless.

I heard an interview on Big O and Dukes with Dan Hsu from EGM I think and what he said is that the wheel doesnt give you the fine touch control that most mario kart gamers are used to and most will want to use the gamecube controller when playing

Hopefully the online play is a little bit smoother for this than Super Smash Bros which still has kinks with the random online play.

I'm over at the Nintendo World Store in Manhattan. Lots of free t-shirts and opportunities to play the game. Also they are giving out 250 wristbands to buy the game today.

I'm liking the online play -- it seems to be lag free. You also get an indicator when a friend is online so you can link up with them to race.

Something I've noticed about the game is that it doesn't seem to be as easy for people to do the "snaking" maneuver for extra speed (using the drift feature along with a serpentine movement to get greater speed). On the DS Mario Kart online, so many people who perfected that maneuver were able to dominate the online play. It's good for me, because I never got any good at trying to pull that move off anyway.

I played this over a friend's house tonight. Two people on classic controller, two people on the Wii Wheel.

The Wii Wheel is fucking abysmal. It's so fucking hard to use.
