you need to do what i did, come to peace with them not playing in october. everything becomes a little easier when you realize you dont have to get excited cause the games dont matter. just start looking for bright spots and hopefuls for next season, like a full year of Nady for instance. thats something to get excited about.

I say fuck this noise. I want to See Hughes Kennedy and whom ever else who they think could help next year, for the entire month of September. Fuck this winning delusion. They are done. Fuck Sidney Ponson, fuck. Rasner. Give Gardner the full leadoff and CF job for the rest of sept also. I don't want to see these fat cat overpaid losers anymore.
Work for next year.

Aceves dominated that one inning. we went into the year wanting to develop our young pitchers, and as you saw there, we clearly have.
So i deem this year a success.

Just wondering....
Since A-Rod is only an awesome MVP player every two years (Odd years), and next year is 2009.
Who would you like to see batting behind A-Rod? I say (dare I say!) bring Manny Ramirez and have him bat in the 5th spot since Giambi will be gone next year.
Manny will definitely be a much bigger heel in a Yankee uniform.
What do you fellow Yankee fans think?

All that's left is extending Pavano and Giambi long term.

Its not the money that bothers me.. Sure he is an Mvp player now, and will prob be for a long time. But i think he only has 5 years left. He will be hitting like 250 in the 6th 7th year. we cant afford to be spending that much money on a player hitting 250.. That would be just stupid..
I am willing to go 5 at 30 to make up the difference in money.
Even if he takes re working Arod's deal and give him more per to make him happy.
WE NEED TO KEEP THIS CLUTCH BIG GAME TANDEM IN TACT!!

Melky Cabrera
If they can trade him which I doubt, Cano
Maybe Abreu.

They dont have a lot of wiggle room. Unless they sign Texiera, I think Giambi will actually come back.
Mussina will be back along with Pettite and Joba.

Pettite will come back for 1 more year and so will moose. I think Pavano gets a 1 year deal too.

How do you give pavao an extension ?
I don't care if he goes 6-0 this year he's still not worthy of an extension.
Why would you trade Cano, and if it's because it seems like he's playing below that you thought you got w/ the new contract, what makes you think another team would want that same issue ?

You give Pavano a 1-year deal way below market value with incentives with a club options for above market value down the road.
I KNOW he stole money. But so did Kei Igawa. Unlike Igawa, there's a lot of potential there. Guy's only 32 and he's coming back from Tommy John.

Cashman seems to stick with him for some reason (not sure why), Girardi never dealt with him. The only people after that are "clubhouse leaders" - which basically boils down to DJ and Jorge.

Cashman stuck with him because of his lack of value to other clubs. trust me if the giants came calling with a Lincecum for Pavano deal Cashman would have dealt him in a second. As for "clubhouse leaders" we all heard Moose basically call out Pavano and his lack of commitment to the team, he was speaking for everybody in the club house.

Are you really comparing Pavano and A-Rod? Just think about the absurdity of that for a moment.........after you let it sink in you can continue reading. Now let's think about this rationally. Should the Yankees sign a man (for insurance) that literally stole 40 million dollars from them or should the go after a man like Sabathia, Sheets or Burnett and have a rotation that consists of one of them followed by Wang, Joba, Moose, Pettitte, Hughes?

i see your point. and of course they should go after all of them. but for 2 million dollars what would it hurt to keep me around for an injury situation.

Pavano said that Cashman actually made it a point to go see Pavano a few times in Fla and he claims that is the reason he came back..
Now will Cashman be here next year, that is another question
And the Lincecume argument is silly. Of course he would have traed Pavano for him. He would have traded anyone not named Joba for him.

I'm sorry, call me a Ned Nitpicker if you want... but Robinson Cano JOGGING home just now bugs me. I don't care how obvious it is that you're gonna make it home safely, hustle the fuck home. You don't need to book it home full-tilt or slide, as Damon's hit was clearly in the gap and good for extra bases... but when Damon is rounding 2nd, and you're still jogging home from 3rd, you need to pick up the fucking pace.

They absolutely bring Pettitte back next year. Right now the only sure spots in the rotation, assuming Mussina returns, is Moose and Wang. They bring back Pettitte back and it's Wang, Mussina, Pettitte and more than likely they bring in Sabathia... Then they make Hughes, Kennedy, Aceves etc. fight it out for the 5th spot. That is of course if they stick to the plan of keeping Joba in the bullpen... Which is fucking retarded.

they only plan on keeping Joba in the pen to start the season, he'll be converted just like he was this year even probably around the same time so he'll spend majority of the season as a starter barring injury. Injury free the rotation could/should look like this come mid-May......Sabathia, Wang, Joba, Moose, ??????. Personally I would love for ????? to be Ben Sheets but signing bth Sabathia and Sheets just isn't a possibility.

Yeah i know its gonna be a shame when the Orioles close out Yankees stadium with a sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep
Just curious for the yankees fans have you guys been following at all the governments investigation into the new stadium getting built, and the yankees passing on the costs of a lot of things onto the taxpayers?
Do you think its worth paying the tax money for the new stadium?
Nice words from Curt Schilling on The Captain:
Anyone that knows Shonda and I knows what Lou Gehrig the name, and the legacy mean to us. So seeing any player mentioned in the same breath usually brings some anxiety now a days. But last night Derek Jeter passed Lou Gehrig for the all time career hits mark in Yankee stadium. I am not sure I can think of a player more befitting this honor. From day one the guy has competed hard and always played the game right, not an easy task in New York city.
I can think of no one I enjoyed competing in the biggest games against more than Derek. He never gave away an at bat and never played the game at anything less than his best. Stat heads and non-Yankee fans can rant and scream about ‘intangibles’ or range factor but I had the honor of seeing him live and watching his impact on his team, and mine, for close to 10 years, and it mattered. What a great way to see the closing of Yankee stadium go with this record making headlines (http://38pitches.com/).

Can I ask a completely unrelated question?
I wore a Yankees hat and a Jets jersey to the game last night. Although it was primarily because I didn't have any Yankee shirts I wanted to wear to the game.
I saw some giants stuff there; not a lot of Jets stuff.
I got some cheers from people and J-E-T-S chants, but I overheard one guy muttering "Who the fuck would wear a Jets jersey to Yankees stadium?"
I turned around and said, "It's football season, deal."
Now, is it a faux pas to wear a football jersey to a baseball stadium when it's Football season? I mean, I saw people wearing Red Sox shit there last night and they weren't even playing!

I think it depends on where you are. In Boston, the only football team is the Patriots. Here, it's only the Bears, so crossover between baseball and football in cities like that doesn't come down to a couple teams like NY has.
That said, Tenbats shouldn't have been wearing a football jersey because outside of playing football or going to a football game, football jerseys somehow manage to look incredibly gay and incredibly hideous at the same time.

My friend pulled off a paint chip and gave it to me, but I had no connection to that... I felt a lot better with the pictures that *I* took of the stadium. Pictures that I have a personal connection to mean a lot more, for some reason.
I would buy seats from the stadium if they were sanely priced - like the mets - but I'm not putting down a fucking mortgage payment for two seats from Yankee Stadium.

Just as a personal opinion i think its silly to wear a Jets jersey to a Yankees game. I'm not really sure I can explain why I feel the way I feel about it but it just looks stupid to me because it has no real relevance to the game your watching or the teams playing. You might as well wear a Colts jersey or a Florida Panthers jersey and that would look just as dumb. There's nothing I hate more then watching like a Cubs/Brewers game on ESPN and seeing some dude wearing a Chargers jersey.

I read that too. But there's a difference between wearing a keyshawn jersey and wearing a Chrebet jersey. Keyshawn played for 2 more teams past the Jets and he's not looked back as a popular Jet.
Chrebet, meanwhile, is one of the most popular Jets of all time.

Why not? The first one hit was by some nameless dude. And I mean the first one in the current incarnation.
I care more about the last win than the last HR.

So I have Suzyn and John and the TV on. Reggie is on which I'm enjoying. He's a better announcer than Joe.
I miss Bob Sheppard too.

They had Yogi and Whitey in the booth for an inning or so, that was a nice treat. Reggie was good too. At least they're trying to dilute the awfulness that is John & Joe.
Now Michael Kay is doing it.
Christ, how fucking long is this game? 11 PM and still in the 7th??

I didn't think he sounded horrible, but I've only heard a grand total of like 5 minutes. He really sounds a LOT like a less mush-mouthed Vos.
He's replaced Morgan for the time being...automatic upgrade.

The Yankees have a shockingly bad announcing crew for probably the premiere franchise in Major League Baseball.
Is it just that Big Stein is so scared of hiring an announcer who might rip the team?

Everyone has homers nowadays. The radio team is really bad, but I think that's more because Waldman is so terrible. If Sterling had a better partner than Waldman, his game would be raised. I've said it before, Charley Steiner and Sterling were a great pairing, they just hated each other.
And as for the TV voices, Kay is the weakest link. Singleton will always be better, and their player analysts are top notch, including O'Neill, Cone, and Leiter.

I've come around on Michael Kay a lot this season, I'm not sure why either. I have to give him credit because he has ripped into the Yankees a few times pubicly and he's been repremanded for it by Yankee brass.

Best analyst. Has a good voice and has good stuff to say. Cone's voice is too weird, and O'Neill is OK.
Singleton is their best PBP guy. Bobby Murcer, bless his soul, was pretty good too.

yea that is a pretty ballsy move on his part. he def. earned some respect for that. i think no matter what you are going to hate the announcer that you have to hear 160 days a year.

yea i totally agree, you can only say so many things during a baseball game. one thing i hate is having to wacth Al Leiter show the viewers how to throw a curve ball 75 times a season but i know he's doing it for people that are watching for the first time and not me. nonetheless it bothers me so i see how any person can anger you over the course of a full season, or several seasons for that matter.

Say what you will about the Yankees, this is a huge chunk of baseball history that's not going to be around anymore. I think the vivid attachment to history and the consistency of the overall game linking it to its history for over a century is what seperates this sport from all others.

Not tha they should be doing it here, but it sucks with baseball now tha after a big game is done the cops have to come out and block the crowd. I look at the clips of the crowds streaming onto the field after a huge win over the years with envy.

I have a feeling if the Cubs finally win a WS again at home, the cops won't make a difference unless they have the SWAT team out there backing them up.
