well they still have til the waiver deadline later this month, they could still get something done
We are on the road all aug, after today. And 6 more games vs LAA. By the time that happens, they may be too far back. Especialy with this lackluster hitting.

You've already established that a handful of games you watch are more important than 14 years of baseball.
To be fair, ARod's clutch numbers are getting pretty shitty in some key scenarios this year, namely when the game is "late and close" (PA in the 7th or later with the batting team tied, ahead by one, or the tying run at least on deck.). He had similar issues in 2006, too. Every other year of his career, however, his clutch stats across the board are among the very elite.

Yeah, hes been bad this year. But I don't know how anyone could have watched him last year and not think he's generally good when its close. He was historically good last year.
It's getting really annoying to me that he catches this crap when he is the primary reason why this team scores runs. They were offensively atrocious without him when he was injured.

1. You bring out 14yrs. Give me a year in the 7 years in Texas that he had to really do anything 'clutch'. Did he have games where he got hits in late innings there and hit with RISP.. Yea the stats show it.But were they really pressure when they were out of the race by late may, June when he was there?
2. The offense is atrocious now,. and he is one of the main culprits, they score 15 runs one game, where he pours it on and hits hrs up or down 6-2. God forbid he hits a HR last night, or the 1-0 game vs LAA.
No one wants to see the man do well more than me. I live and die with this team, watching every night and put a lot of emotions and time into them, i only pounce on him because i care about the team so much.

05.. EHHHHHHHH. There were plenty of times i seen him come up small. My, Fucking ARODS! were pretty up there in 05 when he would pop up with runners on 3rd 1 or no outs.
Can you guys pop up his postseason stats in all those years, please?
edit, i know it was not just him that has been awful in the postseason. Its the whole team, including Jeter.
But he is the big money man, who wants the spotlight, so naturally he gets targeted.

You're fucking killing me.
You picked like the one scenario outside of guys on 1st & 2nd where he stunk in 2005. (http://www.baseball-reference.com/pi/bsplit.cgi?n1=rodrial01&year=2005#situa-bases) Both are, however, not traditional "clutch" situations like you're bitching about. You really have to nitpick and distort to call him non-clutch in 2005 when he was clearly one of THE most clutch players in the game that year.
If you look closer he was VERY good with runners on 3rd and 2 outs or a guy on 3rd with 2 outs and late in the game...critical clutch situations. Bases loaded? Outstanding. RISP and men on in general he was also very good to excellent.

I need to introduce you to a guy I know. Last night he was sounding just like you. He watches every game and my favorite line he said was "He's leading the league in hitting but I'm not seeing all these hits." This was right as ARod hit into a double play.

Dude, i am sorry, i see what i see, and all i see is him sucking ass in big spots. Like i said, i have no hatred for the guy, i have his jersey and want him to succeed, because he plays for my team. I have no jelousy of him, like some fans, media and players, because he makes all that money and what not. I know the #s are there, but he just does not come up big, in big sots, i just can't explain it.
I am really not surprised at you for looking at the #s and not really watching too many Yankee games, and forming your opinion.
I am utterly shocked that Hbox, who watched every game, is a smart and knowledgeable fan, can watch Arod play and come up small more often than not, and have this opinion. i just do not get it.

To me i think its unfair to lump all of this criticism on ARod as if he isnt trying maybe he tries to hard in teh clutch, or maybe he doesnt get great ptiches in that instance because of who hits behind him in the lineup (btw i dont know who that is) but that can go along way towards the clutch situations because he gets pitches that arent great because they dont fear teh guy behind him

No one says he does not try. He clearly cares and tries. Like you said, maybe too much. He just needs to relax and go with it. They pitch him differently in big spots, go out of the zone more and what not, because they know he is so strung up that he will chase it. More often than not, he does chase it.

Kevin i think you said what i was trying to say just more eloquent. I didnt mean to imply that he doesnt try hes a professional and clearly cares and does try. Maybe the better term is that he presses too much in those situations because he feels he does have to come up big.

It's impossible for you to "win" with this line of thinking. You just watching a bunch of games is in no way anywhere even close to actually tracking how well or poorly a player does in certain situations over an entire season. It's not that I don't understand you...I see Cubs fans do it all the time. I'll do it myself where I think a guy is doing really well or really poorly due to the games I've watched, but the information is always there in total to show how limited our scope is. There's nothing for you to explain...the numbers don't exist out of nothingness...if they're good, they exist due to results. Saying that you're right because you watch games automatically loses. It's like using the Nazi card in a debate: instant-fail. HBox is showing how he's a smart fan by NOT relying mostly on what he thinks he sees.

This year, his clutch scenarios are really ranging between decent at best to downright bad in certain spots. And even in his best years, it's not like he's going to succeed in every clutch spot...no player does.
Honest question...where do you think the numbers come from? Do you think you're watching of games is more accurate than the stat tracking?
It's not really an issue of opinions. It's the equivalent of seeing that gas costs $4.06 at your local pump but refusing to believe that's the case since you have seen it many times over the years at lower prices.

i think it depends where they are in a month.......if they're only a few games out in the wild card they may bring him back, if they can, to make a playoff push. if it's clear the playoffs are a lost cause (which I think they will be) then they shut him down. theres really no point in rushing his recovery.

Minimum of 1000 IP, 3000 PA and 100 decisions for career and active leaderboards for rate statistics.
Which means that previously Pedro was blowing away the field in the ERA+ department. but Mariano Rivera has now reached 1000 innings in his career, so he's the leader. Pedro's ERA+: 157. Rivera's ERA+: 197.

ARLINGTON – As if the Yankees didn't have enough problems in the starting rotation already, it now appears that Andy Pettitte might be forced to miss his next start.
According to a source with knowledge of the situation, Pettitte has been experiencing stiffness in his left arm, though it is unclear whether it is his shoulder or elbow that has been bothering him.
The issue will likely keep the lefthander from taking the mound on Sunday in Anaheim, which would force the Yankees to find yet another arm to fill a spot in the rotation.
Pettitte has been hit hard in each of his last two outings, giving up nine runs in 5 1/3 innings against the Angels on July 31 and five runs in five innings on Tuesday night against the Rangers.
Darrell Rasner, who was yanked from the rotation this week in favor of Dan Giese, is the only possible option on the active roster to take Pettitte's start. The Yankees could also dip down to the minors for Chase Wright, Alfredo Aceves or Kei Igawa, though none are on the 40-man roster.
The Yankees have Ian Kennedy set to return from the minors to make the start on Friday in Anaheim, while Giese is lined up to pitch Saturday against the Angels.
Pettitte is 12-9 with a 4.34 ERA this year, combining with Mike Mussina (14-7, 3.44) to solidify the top of the rotation in the absence of Chien-Ming Wang. With Joba Chamberlain on the disabled list and likely out for at least three weeks with rotator cuff tendonitis, an injury to Pettitte would leave yet another huge hole to fill for the Yankees during their postseason drive.

Having successfully orchestrated his divorce from Boston and his landing in with the Dodgers, Manny Ramirez would like to make life miserable for the Red Sox during the next few seasons. According to people who have spoken to the eccentric outfielder since he was dealt to L.A. on July 31, Ramirez wants to sign a free-agent deal with the Yankees this offseason and get 19 chances a year to punish Boston. "He wants to play for the Yankees so he can get at the Red Sox," a close friend of Ramirez's told The Post.
He would murder Redsox pitching.

Geesh..who could have seen that coming.
But..I thought he wanted to finish his career in LA. If he does go to NY, I hope Beckett puts one right in his earhole.

If they only give Manny like 2 years, ill take him over Abreu in a heartbeat. But really the last thing this team needs is another aging outfielder. dont get me wrong, one of the greatest right handed hitters of all time......but he's getting up there in age.
p.s. who's this geise character? he was one of the big 3 right? joba, hughes, geise? im pretty sure thats how it went

Watching that last inning made me realize how brilliant that moron Max Kellerman really is.
A week or so ago he was going on some tangent about how K-Rod would be the 4th best reliever in the Yankees bullpen.

theres no reason to listen to Max unless he's talking boxing. though k-rod's strikeouts have been decreasing and his walks increasing, he's certainly better than anyone in the yanks bullpen aside from Mo.

Yeah...how dare the Sox let him grow his hair long, not bench him for half-assed play, let him take personal days off, or take him at his word that he was really hurting? What a fascist regime!

I was listening to Michael Kay today because the Met game was on, and i was in my car, so i flipped from the Met game to him..
perfect example of the crappy state of this team.. Yankees sent a jet to Texas to pick up Yankees who wanted to go to the Bobby Mercer funeral..
2 fucking Yankees went.. Jeter and Pettite. Besides the coaches. That right there show that most of this team just does not give a shit about team a baseball. Its a Me Me oriented team, and it shows in big spots and with their sloppy play..

Another sign..
Torri Hunter on Cano.. From the Star Ledger
He said on a ball that got by cano. i dont know that's their team and their problem, but if my 2b did not make an effort to dive and knock that ball down, we would be fighting in the clubhouse.
I think he just called Cano a bum there.. And he is right

I honestly don't give a shit who went to Bobby Merceur's funeral. Was it classy and respectful that Jeter and Pettitte showed up? Absolutely, and I really wouldn't expect anything less from them. But if I'm Xavier Nady here's what I'm thinking, 'Hmmmmmm, some guy i don't know that once played for this organization died. Do I get up and take a flight at 4am to go to a funeral for some guy I don't know? Or do I stay back and rest up for a big game and try and help this team make a playoff push?' If I'm Nady, I'm choosing the later option. I'm sorry, but what Jeter and Pettitte did was above and beyond, not the standard.
